We're looking for someone to join our passionate team as a Collections & House Officer, to help us inspire people when they visit Ham House and Garden.
Hours: You'll be working 30 hours a week, including 1-2 weekends a month.
Salary: £23,868 per annum, pro rata, plus an outer London weighting allowance of £3,315 per annum, pro rata.
Contract: Fixed-term until 28 February 2025.
Interviews: 10 July 2024.
What it's like to work here
Reporting to the Collections & House Manager, you’ll join a passionate and knowledgeable team at one of the National Trust’s 28 Discovery Houses. An ambitious and high-performing team that includes four part time Collections Assistants, a Senior Collections and House Officer and another Collections and House Officer. Ham House is internationally recognised for its superb collection of paintings, furniture and textiles, and our work balances managing the care of the house and its collection with ensuring that our visitors can access and engage with Ham and its fascinating stories.
What you'll be doing
As the Collections and House Officer, you’ll be responsible for opening the house every day, and making sure there are enough people in the right places to give visitors a consistently good experience. You'll enjoy telling visitors about our fascinating history, sharing stories from the past as well as your personal experience of working here. You'll supervise volunteers and ensure that our welcome is inclusive and friendly.
Working with a team of Collections Assistants, you will implement conservation cleaning routines and an annual deep cleaning programme to ensure excellent standards of care. You'll collect and record information gathered whilst carrying out preventive conservation and collections management tasks to inform and improve our knowledge and presentation of the house and collection.
