Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered, motivated & experienced Scrub Practitioner/ODP to undertake the role of Scrub Team Leader within our busy Main Theatre team at Singleton Hospital.
The Main Theatre complex consists of six Main Theatres and two Obstetric Theatres. We provide services for Colorectal, General Surgery, Breast, ENT, Bariatric and Ophthalmology. We will be expanding our Theatre Services by an additional three theatres within the next year, enabling us to become the Centre of Excellence for Elective Surgery, so this is an exciting time to join our team.
The successful candidate will supervise the theatre team to assess, develop, implement and evaluate pre, peri and post-operative patient care on a daily basis and will work closely with all disciplines to ensure the effective running of the department within set guidelines in the absence of a Speciality Manager.
You will manage own workload/area and supervise the work of others within a team. You will be involved in the deployment, supervision and teaching of staff within the clinical area and support the Speciality Managers in providing clinical and managerial leadership to Nursing/Operating Department Practitioners and support staff.
You may also be required to work in similar departments across other hospital sites within the Health Board when service demands require.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability. As when service demands, staff are required to work across all three hospital sites, within Swansea Bay University Health Board.
We are committed to developing your professional competence, and building your skills through learning and education to maximise your career prospects. We have supported educational programmes with the University of Wales, Swansea to support your continuing professional development.
Theatre documentation is recorded electronically, so IT skills are essential.
This post will involve caring for patients within the theatre department, who will undergo a range of surgical procedures from various specialities, and you will be expected to manage patients care throughout the perioperative stage.
You will be part of a driven team engaged in the challenges of an ever changing environment, and be expected to become an efficient and effective team member.
This is a physically and mentally demanding role, and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to thrive within a dynamic, fast paced service that puts patient care at the heart of what we do.
Working for our organisation
We believe staff are our best asset and we want you to be happy and confident about starting your career here in Swansea Bay University Health Board.
As one of the biggest healthcare groups in the UK we can offer a wealth of professional training and development opportunities in an innovative, forward-thinking organisation.
You might be a nurse or doctor, maybe you specialise in a health science/therapy or can offer skills in one of our support services - we have a job for you.
There are also apprenticeships, work placements and volunteering roles available.
We are an inclusive employer and welcome applications from everyone whatever their sex; religion or belief; race; age; sexual orientation; gender identity or, whether they are pregnant or have recently been on maternity leave, married or are in a civil partnership; or, whether they are disabled.
