This is an exciting opportunity for a manager to lead a busy high-profile public mortuary for the London boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow. The mortuary offers extensive body storage, two post mortem rooms, a visitor area, a police identification facility and a private car park/outdoor area. As a designated mortuary for the West London Coroners Court, it serves both the Coroner and the Home office with routine, forensic and Level 3 high risk post mortems.

Fulham Public Mortuary is also a Designated Disaster Mortuary, part of the London Mass Fatalities Framework for West London. It has an excellent reputation for assisting with disasters, Disaster Victim Identification incidents and excess deaths. 

The Mortuary Manager role oversees the full mortuary facility. They manage, supervise, assess, train and develop the mortuary team; a Deputy Mortuary Manager, an APT Trainee and any locum technicians. It is vital for the Mortuary Manager to build a strong working relationship with the; Coroners Officers Manager, Coroners Officers, the Coroners, Funeral Directors, laboratories, the Police, routine and forensic pathologists and the other mortuaries within the jurisdiction. It is the Mortuary Manager’s responsibility to arrange the daily Post-Mortem schedule and delegate tasks accordingly to the team. The role may also involve providing ad-hoc training or demonstrations for Police, Paramedics, the Army, Coroners Officers, Junior Doctors etc. From time to time, the mortuary may also need to respond to requests for mutual aid from other mortuaries, providing storage and Post-Mortem support.

The mortuary manager will have a key role in any planned refurbishment and projects.

This is a permanent, full time position, 36 hours per week, with an on-call rota twice per month. Overtime and on-call are renumerated. All employees of Hammersmith and Fulham benefit from a generous pension scheme, annual leave and on-going training and development.
