This role presents a unique chance for a seasoned leader to manage a prominent public mortuary serving the boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow. The facility is equipped with extensive body storage, dual post-mortem examination rooms, a visitor reception area, a police identification suite, and a private parking lot.
As a designated mortuary for the West London Coroners Court, our establishment provides essential services to both the Coroner and the Home Office, handling routine, forensic, and high-risk post-mortem examinations.
Additionally, Fulham Public Mortuary is recognized as a Designated Disaster Mortuary, playing a crucial role in the London Mass Fatalities Framework for West London. Our team has earned a stellar reputation for effectively managing disaster response efforts, Disaster Victim Identification operations, and situations involving excess fatalities.
The Chief Mortuary Operations Officer will oversee the entire mortuary facility, including the management, supervision, assessment, training, and development of the mortuary staff, which includes a Deputy Mortuary Manager, an APT Trainee, and locum technicians. Building robust working relationships with Coroners Officers, Funeral Directors, laboratories, law enforcement, and pathologists is essential for success in this role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the daily post-mortem schedule and delegating tasks effectively.
- Providing training and demonstrations for various stakeholders, including law enforcement and medical professionals.
- Responding to requests for mutual aid from other mortuaries as needed.
- Participating in planned refurbishments and projects to enhance facility operations.
This is a permanent, full-time position, requiring 36 hours of work per week, with an on-call rotation twice monthly. Compensation for overtime and on-call duties is provided.
