Mortuary Operations Assistant

About the Role
The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join our Mortuary Services team as a Mortuary Technician. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing high-quality care to patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the provision of mortuary services across the Trust, demonstrating initiative and judgment to ensure the smooth running of the service.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, funeral directors, police, and members of the public.
- Provide support to the Mortuary Services Manager and deputise in their absence.
- Maintain the safe and dignified reception, storage, and release of deceased patients and their property, ensuring accurate documentation and mortuary registers.
- Ensure complete and accurate recording systems are maintained daily, enabling efficient information retrieval and data provision.
- Perform departmental audits and participate in Trust-wide audits and freedom of information requests.
- Release deceased patients to funeral directors, verifying identification, obtaining hospital release forms, and recording personal property/jewellery.
- Advise and inform bereaved families on sensitive issues, such as tissue retrieval, post-mortem examinations, and death processes.
- Meet with bereaved relatives at viewings, offering support and guidance as needed.
