Job summary

We are looking for an assistant psychologist with a keen interest and experience of working with people with learning disabilities and or/ autism to join our passionate community team working across Suffolk, for a fixed term of 12 months.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with and learn from a range of experienced clinicians as you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team which includes nurses, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, assistant practitioners, art psychotherapists, clinical psychologists, and social care colleagues, who are committed to providing a high-quality service to people with learning disabilities and autism .

You will also be part of a friendly and supportive clinical psychology and psychological therapies team. We have close relationships with the training course at the University of East Anglia, offering placements and teaching on the course. We also have an excellent research department in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

This role will involve supporting the delivery of psychological services to people with learning disabilities and/or autism who present with a mental health difficulty or behaviour that challenges.

The main duties are to support the delivery of psychologically informed assessments, formulations, and interventions to service users alongside psychologists and other colleagues under the close supervision of an experienced Clinical Psychologist. The post holder will work with individuals, families, support services and a range of other professionals and good communication skills are essential.

The post holder will also have a role in contributing to service development projects. A good understanding of psychological models and their application, as well as data analysis and report writing skills is desirable.

Job responsibilities

Main responsibilities to include:

Psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention as appropriate under close supervision of a clinical psychologist

Co-facilitating psychologically informed groups

Contributing to the practice of psychologically informed interventions within the team via teaching and developing resources

Contributing to service development projects

Evaluating outcomes and writing reports

You will have:

A BPS Accredited degree in Psychology

Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism
