Job summary
The Chief Nursing Officer for England (CNO) is recruiting to two key posts within his senior management team. The Deputy Chief Nursing Officers will be highly credible senior nurse leaders, with extensive executive-level experience in provider and / or system leadership roles, with expertise in strategic policy development and implementation, quality and productivity improvement and nursing workforce development. The DCNOs will work as part of the senior professional nursing and midwifery team and will lead on portfolio areas on behalf of the Chief Nursing Officer. These roles will support the CNO to provide robust professional and clinically relevant information and advice to the Department of Health and Social Care and the Board of NHS England, and support the CNO's work with ministers, government officials, professional regulators and royal colleges and professional bodies to shape policy and decision making.

Main duties of the job
The two Deputy Chief Nursing Officer roles will lead distinct portfolio areas:
Quality, safety, resilience, patient safety and improvement, and infection, prevention and control. Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you'll usually need to be paid the 'standard' salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the 'going rate' for your job, whichever is higher. The role will involve broader integrated system-wide work but will also particularly support the CNO on professional matters linked to their portfolio areas.
The DCNO will be a highly credible senior nurse leader, with extensive executive-level experience in provider and / or system leadership roles and with expertise in strategic policy development and strategic implementation, quality and productivity improvement, nursing workforce development, research, and data management.
This leadership post will deputise for the CNO across the whole range of functions covered by the CNO as required.

Extensive senior leadership experience as a senior nurse within the NHS, operating at Board level. Recent and relevant experience of leading an operational team in a trust or equivalent. Experience of leading corporate work programmes in large scale organisations, including knowledge of evaluation and publication of programme results Knowledge and experience of strategic policy development and strategic implementation, quality and productivity improvement, nursing workforce development, research, and data management Successful track record of leading clinically driven, evidence-based health policy/change
