Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational nurse leader to join our senior team as a matron. You will work alongside other matrons, our AHP lead, ACP lead and the senior management team to support our ward teams to provide high quality care.

Oxford Health Community Rehabilitation Service consists of 8 inpatient wards located on 6 Community Hospital sites in Oxfordshire. The Service offers bed-based rehabilitation, specialist rehabilitation post stroke, care to plus size patients, end of life care, sub-acute medical care and community admissions via ambulatory care units. 

The successful candidate will be expected to work across the whole service however have specific responsibility for named wards. We are looking for a leader with an interest in this clinical environment, who is ambitious, creative and focused, and an individual with sound clinical expertise. 

The matron, supported by the senior team, will lead upon quality/safety governance, ensure safe staffing, operational delivery, and drive quality improvement in the service. The matron has an integral role in working with our system partners to provide streamlined pathways of care across the patient’s journey, seven days a week. The role of the Matron will include some weekend and bank holiday working.

Main duties of the job

To provide visible, accessible, clinical leadership to staff delivering clinical care within Oxfordshire Community Hospital services and lead by example in the delivery of high standards of clinical care. Lead on improving patient experience and safety of community hospital services. Provide responsive leadership in respect of positive patient experience of care and addressing concerns raised about clinical standards. Working with other Matrons, AHP and ACP lead, to ensure there is a culture of learning and improvement across all hospital inpatient settings. To provide clinical leadership and direction for staff in maintaining clinical and non-clinical standards of care and in implementing service improvements. This includes taking responsibility for driving improvements in the quality of care and ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and all regulatory requirements are met and exceeded. To work proactively with clinical and operational managers/staff across Oxford Health NHS FT, to promote a ‘high performance culture’ in relation to referral pathways and discharge practices. To liaise with stakeholders to ensure Community Hospital Services are fully developed to meet the needs of the local population. Deputising for the Senior Matron and the Head of Service at key strategic meetings as required.

Essential criteria

Educated to degree level Post graduate management qualification or equivalent management experience Ability to demonstrate personal and professional leadership skills.

Formal Leadership Qualification Master's degree

Demonstrate an ability to motivate self and others. All new starters have a 6 month probationary period.
