Overview

It’s a great time to join Screwfix. Thanks to the hard work of our team and record-breaking sales, we’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing retailers in the UK. And we want to pass that growth onto you.

We're looking for a qualified Accountant to join our Stock team here at Screwfix as part of the broader operational finance team. You'll line manage a team of three and be responsible for the accurate and efficient reporting of stock. In addition, system and data interrogation are critical parts of this role. You'll manage stakeholders in Supply Chain, Trading and Logistics to ensure timely and accurate reporting to Group.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract initially.

We believe that a hybrid, flexible working approach offers you – and your colleagues – the best of both worlds. Face-to-face collaboration is an integral part of our warm, friendly culture, so you’ll work from our head office three days a week, working flexibly around our core working hours of 10am-3pm. Beyond that, how, when and where you work is up to you. With a subsidised canteen, free parking and a comfortable, relaxed environment, we’ve worked hard to build an office you’ll want to work in. We also know that, when it comes to school pick-ups and home deliveries, it’s nice to have the flexibility to do both.

Responsibilities

Proactive development of Stock accounting and reconciliation processes to enhance control, ensure alignment with group policies and deliver process efficiencies. Management of month-end and daily stock team processes to ensure all accounting entries are complete and accurately reflect the Stock value across the business. Build strong relationships with the commercial and operational teams, both in Head Office and on-site across the Screwfix DC and Store Network to embed stock management processes and behaviours & drive a greater understanding of stock movements. Proactive business partnering to ensure all colleagues have a clear understanding of P&L. impacts of Stock movements. Deliver the information required to provide commercial support to the rest of the business. Ownership of stock provisions and other stock adjustments, ensuring accurate calculation and reporting alongside alignment with Group accounting policies. Manage FX/Hedging requirement information provision and reporting. Ensure all Group submissions are completed accurately and on time with appropriate supporting information and commentary. Deliver management reporting, within the team, to support the business.  Complete/review statutory and other returns relating to Stock ensuring accurate and timely submission. Effectively support the forecasting and budgeting processes, providing accurate and timely information, and delivering reports with meaningful and succinct supporting commentary as required. Manage the balance sheet reconciliation process ensuring robust review of all balances to ensure the stock statements accurately reflect the true stock position each month alongside ensuring the stock balance accounts are effectively managed in line with group policy. Effective team management of Stock Assistants, to encourage personal and professional development, whilst ensuring effective delivery of the Stock Team responsibilities. Encourage wide collaboration to develop and enhance the Stock Team outputs and reputation both within and outside finance. Ensure all standard operating procedures are complete and updated annually. Ensure compliance with Group Financial Reporting Manual and Screwfix internal controls.

Qualifications
