Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated nurse ideally with at least six months experience in an acute setting, with a commitment to team working and a keen interest in continuous improvement. Experience in an endoscopy setting would be an advantage, but full training will be given to nurses from different areas.

Endoscopy is an exciting place to work with new procedures and equipment being developed all of the time to improve the patients journey and experience. You will provide care for patients from admission to discharge within the Endoscopy Unit. You will also work within the rooms as we provide a vast range of procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic work. Our work sometimes takes us out of the unit and you will need to be adaptable when the need arises.Endoscopy provides a great environment for learning. All nurses will complete a bespoke induction programme which will be tailored to your specific needs. Once completed, you will be expected to participate in the cross-site on-call rota providing out of hours emergency care. Following induction you will be able to undertake a number of specific endoscopy courses in line with your ongoing development programme.

Main duties of the job

- Care for patients within Endoscopy providing high quality nursing care.

- To participate in the cross-site on call emergency bleed rota

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest hospital Trusts in the country and provides acute elective and specialist care for the local community across two sites in Gloucester and Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire is a rural county with an historic past, combining picturesque areas such as the Cotswolds, together with excellent shopping centres, museums, schools, leisure activities, and restaurants.

The JAG accredited Endoscopy Units at Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital are busy nurse-led units that serve as both a Regional Endoscopy Training Centre and National Bowel Cancer Screening Centre. On the GRH site, the unit encompasses a purpose built endoscope decontamination area. The unit handles emergency procedures directly from the ED department as well as caring for inpatients and outpatients. In addition to this, the unit also have specialist lists including: ERCP, Peg Insertion, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, RFA, EUS, Bravo, Bronchoscopy, EBUS and Thoracoscopy. We also participate in research.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with appropriate teaching/assessing qualification.

- Minimum 6 months experience within an acute clinical area.

- Enhanced IT skills.

- Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills. Administer intravenous drugs and perform cannulation.

- Act as a resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.

- Ensure personal and professional development is progressed through Individual Performance Development Review.

- Demonstrate understanding of research based practice, and participate as required in audit.

- To safely decontaminate endoscopes used within the department and other areas both manually and using the AERS.

- To accessorize in the Endoscopy theatre supporting the doctor and Endoscopy assistant.

- To manage the patients airway/monitor condition during the endoscopic procedure.

- To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.

- Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.

- To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using nursing/Endoscopy equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.

- To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.
