Leicester, United Kingdom Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Full time

Job summary

Come andjoin Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, where we offer a wide variety ofchallenging and rewarding roles within a supportive, innovative and dynamicwork environment

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a new role, funded initially by Macmillan and EMCA, then the local ICB.

The post holder will lead a small team in the setting up of a new service providing psychological support for cancer services within the area. The team will include a band 7/8a psychologist role and for a year the support of an assistant psychologist. We are happy to consider job share/part time working.

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated clinical psychologists to join our well-established Department of Medical Psychology. The department is friendly, supportive, and flexible. The team includes clinical and counselling psychologists, trainees, assistants, and excellent admin/clerical support. We place great emphasis on supervision and personal development, which is possible through working within a psychology department. We meet regularly for case presentations, clinical governance, and business meetings. We also have a monthly peer group meeting and regular time-out to enable reflection and service development. We have a team base at Leicester General Hospital, although the role will involve work at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve leading the development of a new service, alongside another psychologist and assistant. The role will offer the opportunity to evaluate the needs of the client group, through close liaison with medical teams and patients. Initially, this will involve setting up pathways, referral criteria and determining how the service will operate. This is likely to be done through liaison with the MDTs, Macmillan and other cancer psychology teams within the East Midlands.

It is likely the role will include staff training, support and supervision, as well as working closely with medical teams. There is likely to be psychological assessment both for surgery and psychological support. There will be one to one therapy work, the potential to set up groups, as well as creating new ways to ensure patients are supported psychologically, both as inpatients and outpatients.
