Role Summary

This is an exciting fixed term opportunity for a period of months. Previous theatre experience is essential, as this role is responsible for maintaining the Trust's multifaceted theatre schedule for main theatres, Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC), Child & Women’s Health (CWH), West of England Eye Unit (WEEU) and 5 Community Theatres and is crucial to patient flow. It oversees theatre flow on a daily basis, escalating any issues around safe staffing, equipment failure, overruns. Co-ordinates surgical and orthopaedic admissions to Knapp Ward and creates alternative plan when the Trust is in escalation and our daycase beds are in use for inpatients. In conjunction with Surgery Care Group Associate Medical Director or Critical Care Clinical Director, manages clinical priority process when necessary to stand down activity.

The successful applicant will need to have a calm approach to handling difficult and challenging conversations within the multi-disciplinary team as there are many components which create complexity requiring an extensive knowledge and understanding of theatres, clinical prioritisation and Trust priorities. 

You will be required to support the Clinical Matrons across all theatres in maintaining patient safety by ensuring safe staffing levels and liaising with community sites to negotiate cross cover, escalating any challenges with theatre staffing, anaesthetic cover or equipment issues resulting in potential list cancellation.
