The Opportunity

London Northwest University Healthcare Trust is seeking a head of service with significant expertise and experience of Equality Diversity Inclusion (EDI) culture change and engagement strategies, to lead these development programmes, implement change and deliver results.

The post holder will be responsible for EDI, culture change, staff engagement and experience programmes, providing assurance to the Trust committee and Board that the organisation's practices and policies are equitable and non-discriminatory. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a new leadership team supporting our organisation to achieve its aspirational EDI goals, to shape its form and culture, build diverse leadership and facilitate change in a way that continues to make our Trust a great place to train and work.

You should be able to demonstrate the skills of being able to work with colleagues in all parts of our complex system to address the ongoing workforce and service challenges, whilst undertaking major change to ensure we are achieving our local and strategic goals. You should also have strong people management skills and be able to interpret and assess the implications of pending legislation.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, lead on the development, implementation and monitoring of the Trusts EDI, and culture change strategy, plans and initiatives to enable delivery of the Trusts People plan and strategic vision.

Serve as head of EDI and Culture, developing the Trusts short- and long-term plans and strategies and reprioritising workload changes to embed our HEART values.

Oversee the annual staff survey, survey results and communication plan and the development and implementation of plans and initiatives that will drive employee engagement, and meet the Trust's goals.

The hospital provides a full range of services including the country's top-rated hyper-acute stroke unit and one of only three hyper-acute rehabilitation units in the UK St Mark's Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

Registered Chartered MCIPD Master's or Postgraduate qualification in leading Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, legal responsibility to promote EDI in workplace, Organisational Development, Occupational Psychology, relevant business, or strategic leadership qualification Accredited facilitator in one or more Organisational Development, psychometric tool and change management practitioner. Evidence of CPD with a focus on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

Extensive experience of managing at a senior level in a workforce/equalities, diversity, and inclusion role in a large complex organisation Experience of developing, implementing, and evaluating the impact of strategic and operational level interventions to challenge and improve structural and systemic inequality and making an organisation more inclusive and equitable. Comprehensive knowledge of equality legislation including competency in the use of a wide range of Equality & Human Rights focused improvement approaches, diagnostics tools and techniques. Knowledge of equality frameworks and benchmarking tools WRES, WDES, EDS2 and equality frameworks Experience of leading staff survey and staff engagement experience and ability to identify/research new developments in EDI, and employee engagement and translate these into practical applications Experience of presenting and influencing at Trust Board/sub-committee level or equivalent to influence and gain support for the inclusion agenda.

Desirable

Relevant experience within an NHS or public sector contextor public sector context Up to date knowledge of current NHS and professional issues impacting the employee engagement and EDI agenda

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

Essential

Skills and ability to lead compassionately and manage people and teams in a collaborative and inclusive manner in a large complex organisation. Financial management skills and ability to manage local/delegated budgets. Analytical skills to interpret and translate complex data ( national policies, staff survey and statistical data) and to translate and communicate them to influence policy decisions and stakeholders. Ability to use diagnostic tools to identify designing, implementing, and evaluating EDI, culture change and staff engagement and workforce strategy. Proven ability to manage and confidently and clearly communicate highly complex, sensitive, and potentially contentious information using a wide variety of communication techniques including reports, presentation, training, and facilitation skills Excellent report writing and communication skills. Self aware, self motivated able to use own initiative to support autonomous work.
