Job summary

Wehave an exciting opportunity here at Leeds Teaching Hospitals due to anexpansion of our rota. We are recruiting 3 Trust Grade Doctor (Level ST3+) postwithin the second largest Major Trauma Centre in the UK based at the LeedsGeneral Infirmary.

Weare looking for a junior doctor to take up full and/or part-time posts and canoffer deferred appointments. Candidateswho are unable to work full time are encouraged to apply and consideration willbe given to applicants who wish to work full or part-time and those wishing tojob share. Shorter duration contracts will also be considered for the rightcandidate.

Aboveall we need a ST3+ Trust Grade Doctor in Trauma and Orthopaedics with apositive attitude, who will deliver quality services with compassion and becomean integral member of a dedicated and dynamic team. Main duties of the job

Theposts have been designed for experienced doctors wishing to pursue a career inTrauma and Orthopaedics.

Weoffer exposure to polytrauma and trauma Orthopaedic surgery aligned withexcellent training opportunities.

Youwill be allocated an educational supervisor to help guide your careeraspirations and to maximise educational opportunities, you will have theopportunity to access medical expertise in a wide variety of disciplines.

Theapplicant must have full GMC registration with license to practice, a minimumof two years previous experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, a minimum of12 months experience as a doctor in the NHS, valid ATLS certification and musthave full MRCS or equivalent.

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will work with a team of surgeons to provide inpatient care forboth trauma and elective patients. The post holder will be on a 24 hour partialshift, on the third tier supporting the FY1/2, and ST1/2 doctors.

LeedsTeaching Hospitals is a leading healthcare institution, excelling in patientcare, teaching and research. We provideTrauma and Orthopaedic services from two sites within Leeds. All trauma is admitted to the Leeds GeneralInfirmary and elective work is undertaken at Chapel Allerton Hospital, approximately3 miles from the Infirmary. The Trust Grade Doctor will be expected to work atboth sites.

Fracture Clinics

Trauma and Elective Orthopaedicsurgery

Weekend Hip lists

Ward rounds and patient reviews

Support to FY1/2, and ST1/2 doctors.

Full in house educational andclinical supervision and mentoring package

Access to participate in on-goingdepartmental research and audit presentations.

Opportunities to teach undergraduates

Access to clinical governancemeetings.

AllTrauma is admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary. The Trauma referral base is from the whole ofthe Yorkshire Region, a population of approximately million. Particular specialist services provided areopen fractures, post injury limb reconstruction and complex fracture work. There is a specific interest in polytraumaand many peripheral units refer most of their multiple injuries straight toLeeds General Infirmary on day one. Thispost is designed to support this well established Trauma service.

Aregional service is provided for acute trauma and post trauma reconstructivesurgery as well as General Elective Orthopaedic services for hand surgery,paediatric surgery at the LGI. There isa General Elective Orthopaedic service currently provided for complex andrevision lower limb arthroplasty, upper limb, knee, foot and ankle surgery areprovided at Chapel Allerton Hospital.

LeedsGeneral Infirmary has 3 orthogeriatric wards, one trauma ward, one paediatricward including 2 paediatric HDU beds, one spinal surgery ward and a four beddedHDU shared with plastic surgery. Thereare 3 trauma theatres running all day lists. All trauma outpatients are seen ina dedicated fracture clinic with supporting radiology facilities.

ChapelAllerton Hospital has 2 dedicated orthopaedic rehabilitation wards and one 14bedded post-operative care ward. Thereare 4 dedicated orthopaedic clean air theatres.The rehabilitation wards are focused on rapid post op rehabilitationwith a large dedicated Physiotherapy and Occupation Therapy team. Elective orthopaedic outpatients are seen atChapel Allerton Hospital with supporting radiology facilities including an MRIscanner.

MedicalStaff in the Department

Traumaand Orthopaedic department of surgery is a large unit contributing to bothservice delivery and academic research. There are 32 Consultants including aProfessor of Trauma surgery and all main branches of Trauma and OrthoapedicSurgery are represented. The department consists of:

3 CT1/2 level Deanery posts / 5 Trustposts

Dutiesof the Post

To ensure high quality and safe careof Orthopaedic patients resulting in excellent clinical outcomes.

To contribute directly to patientcare by, for example, reviewing patients, organising investigations and actingon results, initiating and changing treatment, and speaking to and involvingpatients in their care and management and keeping patients and theirrelatives/carers updated about their clinical progress.

To undertake essential administrativeduties, including prescribing, writing electronic discharge letters, andliaising with colleagues in primary care to facilitate safe and appropriatedischarges.

To contribute to a multidisciplinaryapproach to patient care, working collaboratively with a large team of alliedhealthcare professionals, including the Early Discharge Assessment Team,specialist nurses and physiotherapists.

Outof hours Duties at Leeds General Infirmary

Thereare 2 separate consultants on-call; one for MTC admissions and one fororthopaedic trauma. This job has on-callcommitments and is a combination of full shift and on-call.
