Job summary

Job Purpose:

The Dyfodol Offender Interventions Service is anintegrated partnership provision for South Wales and for the public sectorprisons of HMP Cardiff, HMP Swansea and HMP Usk/Prescoed. The aim of theservice is to address the causes of drug and/or alcohol related offending andrisk of harm to individuals, families, and peers by providing individual andtherapeutic group interventions for drug and alcohol related misuse and toreduce the levels of reoffending.

Main duties of the job

Role Responsibilities:

To organise and deliver recovery focused groupsessions within the prison.

Facilitate a recovery focused programmeaddressing the needs of each individual, adhering to Treatment Manual andguidance provided by the Line Manager.

Work collaboratively with service users to meetthe needs of the group.

Carry out individual one-to-one sessions andprovide advice, information, support, harm minimisation advice, brief andstructured interventions in relation to substance misuse and signposting toavailable/appropriate services in the community.

Provide health awareness to service users.

Provide a range of accurate information on drugsand alcohol and their effects on prisoners along with professionals within theprison which is accessible and meaningful in terms of context, language, andliteracy.

Reduce the risk of overdose by providingNaloxone training, advice, and encouragement to service-users to acceptNaloxone kits on release from prison.

Maintain accurate client records and collectionof information for monitoring and evaluating effectiveness and quality ofservice.

Organise and manage time effectively to ensureservice delivery opportunities are maximised.

Contribute to monitoring and reviewingprocedures; ensure quarterly statistics and Key Performance Indicators areachieved.

Please note:

Due to the nature of this post, the successful applicantwill be subject to police checks and prison security clearance, in addition toenhanced Disclosure and Barring System checks, which must be maintainedthroughout employment in HM Prison Service.

Adherence to all relevant Prison Service Orders and PrisonService Instructions.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Experience of building productive working relationships with a range of partners. Experience of working in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams. Experience of working towards achieving individual and team objectives.

Desirable

Experience of working with substance misusers and/or offenders. Experience of working within a prison environment.

Other Relevant Requirements

Desirable

Full driving license with access to own transport to be used for work purposes with appropriate insurance.

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care and/or relevant experience.

Desirable

SMART recovery Facilitator Qualification. Naloxone administration training. Counselling qualification/certificate.

Skills

Essential

An ability to organise own time and prioritise workload effectively. Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Good IT, report writing and note keeping skills, including maintaining all client records as required. A high level of motivation and enthusiasm, with a commitment to facilitating positive outcomes for service users. Ability to work part of a team.

Desirable

Welsh language skills.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of effective individual and group interventions to engage service users.

Desirable

Knowledge of local and national resources, legislation pertinent to the role. Knowledge of working with substance misuse in a range of settings. Knowledge of Harm Reduction Model and abstinent based approach.
