Innovation Technical Lead

Cambridge, United Kingdom Redgate Full time

Our products solve the most challenging problems across the development lifecycle, integrating the database into agile workflows and database estates to be monitored and managed to ensure performance and security.

We’re growing and we are seeking an Innovation Technical Lead to join our Foundry team. Foundry is Redgate's innovation incubator, focused on high-risk, high-reward projects that often lie outside the scope of the company's existing business model. Unlike the Product Division, Foundry expects a higher rate of failure, changes direction frequently, and operates with a start-up mentality. It targets emerging problems and disruptive technologies, aiming to identify and capitalize on future market shifts. Foundry's innovations might reshape Redgate's commercial approach or even become independent spin-offs.

The role

As an Innovation Technical Lead you will be responsible for leading the team, ensuring it has sufficient direction, and can deliver its objectives. We are looking for someone with experience of innovation projects and early-stage product validation to help drive us forward. At Redgate, you’ll be able to develop the skills you want the way you want, and we’ll be there to support, advise, and encourage you. We’ll give you the freedom, flexibility, and trust to excel at what you do, including enabling you to spend 10% of your time on personal development projects. You’ll be working with bright people who are experts at what they do. You’ll learn from us, and we’ll learn from you.

What makes you a great Technical Lead at Redgate?

You have experience as a software engineer or you have experience of conducting user research You have experience with innovation approaches, lean methodologies and early-stage validation techniques. You are comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity, possessing a willingness to pivot, abandon unsuccessful approaches, and rapidly move on to new projects/solutions. You have experience of doing user and market research in an early stage / start-up environment You are committed to learning new tools, techniques, and processes to solve problems with the most effective approach. You have experience in providing successful leadership and can motivate a team You have experience with developing people (e.g. coaching, mentoring, buddying) You can engage well with customers and have past experience of doing so You can successfully collaborate with people in technical roles You can set and meet expectations, successfully managing and prioritizing your own workload

While a technical background is helpful, Redgate understand that the skills of a great Technical Lead can vary -we welcome diverse experience Previous leads have been engineers, designers, researchers, and more; some are stronger in the technical and others in the non-technical.

For roles within our Product Division, we are keen for applicants to know that we are working hard to improve the representation of people from underrepresented backgrounds. Improving the gender balance of this division is a priority so we are particularly keen to hear from women, but please know that we want applications from anyone who wants to be a part of our inclusive business.
At Redgate, we recruit on a rolling basis, which means we carry on recruiting until we find the right person for the role. As a result, we tend to compare individuals to the role specification rather than to each other.
