Glenrothes, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

Do you want to work in Corporate Affairs in an organisation where it makes a real difference? Where you can have a real impact on our environment, customers, communities, and future generations?

If you’re passionate about marketing, have experience with behaviour change campaigns, and ideally have a background in both public and private sector environments, we want to hear from you.

What we do is vital to the daily lives of 5 million people - and the work of Corporate Affairs is vital in keeping them informed and maintaining their trust in us as a proud public service. It’s an exciting time to join us – we’re never far from the spotlight, from major incidents to delivering on our Net Zero ambitions, so there’s no shortage of opportunities to deliver campaigns that make real world impacts.

What you’ll do

The role is part of the Campaigns, Marketing and Events team, a subset of Scottish Water’s Corporate Affairs Directorate. You’ll support and deliver communications work, with a focus on engaging content which drives behaviour change.

In this role, you’ll lead, manage, and be responsible for delivering highly coordinated, insight-driven programmes of customer-focused campaign activities. These will be centred around key themes like demonstrating value, saving water, and reducing pollution and flood impacts. Our campaign portfolio has grown significantly in recent years, and we’re looking to build on that momentum.

As the service responsible for looking after the nation’s water and treating the country’s wastewater, we must work together with customers and communities to shape a sustainable future. Our campaign communications are high profile and have a high level of impact in positively addressing issues such as water efficiency, reducing sewer blockages and the correct disposal of wipes.

Increasingly, we want customers in Scotland to value our services and recognise the essential part we play in enabling them to go about their daily lives.

What you’ll need

Our perfect candidate will display the very best of Scottish Water’s characteristics – Bold, Responsible, Inspiring and Caring. We need someone who can see the bigger picture, but isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and dive into the details.

You’ll need to demonstrate experience in the development and management of high-profile multi-channel impactful campaigns and marketing, whether alone or part of a team. You must have a background in social marketing, delivering behaviour change that is measurable and impactful.

We’re looking for someone who has worked on campaigns using TV, Radio, digital, OOH, events, social media, PR, and influencers, with an eye on public affairs.

You’ll demonstrate the importance of building communications on insight and be as passionate about the evaluation of your work as you are about the creative delivery. Experience of managing agencies required and budget management capability is a must have. All our people are important to us at Scottish Water, you’ll have experience of leading a team and developing and mentoring other members of the Directorate.

Being an excellent and confident communicator is essential – you’ll be able to demonstrate your experience with enthusiasm in a fast-paced and complex environment.

A clear focus on achieving outcomes is also crucial.

Where you’ll work

The nature of this role will offer hybrid working and will also require travel. Therefore, a full driving licence is preferred. Travel will include going to different Scottish Water offices, visiting site, attending events and agency meetings as required. We use Microsoft Teams, but there are times when travel to sites and meeting stakeholders in person is important.

Looking out for you at Scottish Water

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters.

That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 8. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £48,900. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £68,510.

This role will sometimes require you to work outside of normal working hours – you may be asked to participate in an on-call rota.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Sunday 1st of September, and we’re planning to do interviews w/c 16th of September. Please provide a cover letter alongside your CV.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g., referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Finally (finally), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
