Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinician who would like to develop into the role of Advanced Practice Spinal Practitioner to join our Back and Neck Service at AHP Suffolk. The role requires expert, specialist clinical skills in assessment and management of spinal pathology.

We are looking for a clinician to work as a member of the Back and Neck Service who will become part of an expert clinical team, working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team with spinal and pain consultants in the management of a complex chronic and sub-acute back and neck pain caseload.

This is a full time role and will be based between our clinics in Suffolk.

Main duties of the job

Theclinician will:

Work towards providing expert, highly advanced,clinical care with complete professional autonomy, including patientassessment, investigative procedures, diagnosis and management, to a highlycomplex group of patients within the Back and Neck Service.

Work towards providing professional andclinical leadership for spinal care for the company in conjunction withAdvanced Practitioner colleagues, under the guidance of the Lead AdvancedPractice Physiotherapist (APP) and Spinal APP.

Develop close working with other AdvancedPractitioners, spinal consultants, pain consultants, GPs and establishedprimary and secondary care physiotherapists to expand and develop the Back andNeck service/spinal physiotherapy across the company.

PRINCIPALACTIVITIES

The clinician will:

· Provide expert, highly advanced, clinical carewith complete professional autonomy, including patient assessment,investigative procedures, diagnosis and management, to a highly complex groupof patients within the Back and Neck Service.

· Provide professional and clinical leadershipfor spinal care for the company in conjunction with Advanced Practitionercolleagues, under the guidance of the Lead Advanced Practice Physiotherapist(APP) and Spinal APP.

· Work closely with other AdvancedPractitioners, spinal consultants, pain consultants, GPs and establishedprimary and secondary care physiotherapists to expand and develop the Back andNeck service/spinal physiotherapy across the company.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

Extensive specialist clinical experience and knowledge in relationship to speciality. Evidence of recent study in relevant clinical area. Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice. Demonstrate understanding and involvement of clinical governance and risk assessment.

Desirable

Broad knowledge of health legislation. Knowledge of clinical governance and risk assessment/management Knowledge of current NHS, Health Education England, professional and educational issues

Qualifications

Essential

Degree/Graduate Diploma in relevant therapy. Significant post-qualification experience (minimum 5 years) in Musculoskeletal/Spinal roles. HCPC registered. Evidence of continuing education.

Desirable

Membership of appropriate special interest group. Management/leadership training. CSP member.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

Evidence of both theoretical and practical skills and competency in patient management advanced clinical practice and clinical reasoning skills to an advanced practice level in musculoskeletal and spinal Physiotherapy. Able to critique research and information and implement relevant findings to own practice. Able to give clear, concise written and verbal reports. Presentation skills. Advanced communications skills, including the ability to process and share highly complex information in a confidential manner. Clinical leadership skills. Demonstrate professional affairs in a confident, assertive manner, using negotiating/influencing skills whilst maintaining excellent working relationships with all stakeholders/ Computer skills ( for radiology, pathology, ordering as per local protocols, utilising patient systems).

Desirable

Audit/research skills. Ability to develop protocols and guidelines.

Experience

Essential

Extensive experience working as an autonomous musculoskeletal/spinal physiotherapist. Evidence of recent teaching, mentorship and supervision of clinical staff. Experience of multidisciplinary working. Evidence of audit.
