East of England Region in the DHSC Public HealthRegions, Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), is looking toappoint a Deputy Regional Director. Therole is open to Consultants in Public Health with senior level experience The East of Englandis an excellent location to be the Deputy Regional Director of Public Health.The NHS England and DHSC public health teams are full of expertise andexperience, with a passion to improve the populations health and reducedisparities. We have strong relationships with local authority teams across theEast of England and make a significant contribution to the NHS work. We haveexcellent working relationships between DHSC, NHS England and UKHSA and haveconsistently been a strong intelligence led region. The NHS looks to this roleand the Regional Director to support their strategic decision making across a widerange of topics.

This is a senior post which will support the Regional Director of Public Health (RDPH) for DHSC and NHSE in the EoE. The postholder will work with the RDPH and deputise on their behalf to lead the delivery of regional priorities for public health and leadership with strategic partners within the region. The DRD is a senior public health expert who takes the lead for specific programmes of work regionally and nationally.

Main duties of the job

The DRD worksclosely with the RDPH to set strategic direction through strong, visible andprofessional leadership and is responsible for ensuring that the RDPH receivesappropriate assurance on the delivery of the regional business plans by theregional teams.

The DRD supports the RDPH in leading DHSCs contribution tothe local public health systems and its relationship with local government inthe region, working closely to support Directors of Public Health and theirteams.

The DRD role is integral in supporting the RDPH in systemleadership for population health with partners across the East of England region. The DRD works within a highly complex, sensitive andmulti-dimensional environment and will exercise senior leadership, influenceand negotiation across the public health system to ensure that the bestpossible outcomes can be achieved through new and innovative ways of working.

The candidatemust have a strong commitment to Public Health principles and teamworking. They must be self-motivated, pro-active and innovative anddemonstrate high standards of professional probity as well as have the abilityto prioritise work, working well against a background of change anduncertainty. They must be adaptable to situations and can handle peopleof all capabilities and attitudes and be a sensible negotiator with practicalexpectation of what can be achieved.

The Office ofHealth and Disparities (OHID) in the Department of Health and Social Care(DHSC) drives the Governments health improvement agenda. Under theprofessional leadership of the Chief Medical Officer, OHID leads thedevelopment and delivery of the Governments work to improve and level uphealth outcomes with a clear focus on public health, prevention and healthdisparities. This includes cross-government action on the wider determinants ofhealth.
