Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once CESR is awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

NHS Lothian is seeking to recruit a General Adult Psychiatrist in Midlothian. This post is based just south of Edinburgh, with a catchment area of towns including Bonnyrigg, Dalkeith and Penicuik. The successful applicant will be one of 4.0 WTE in Midlothian, which has a population of approximately 100,000. Midlothian Joint Mental Health Team is 100% integrated – all staff (social work, MHOs, OT, CPNs, Psychology, IHTT and administration staff) are co-located at the multi-agency team base at No.11 in Dalkeith. Co-location and integrated working have been a huge success, and our model is a prototype for much of the health and social care integration work currently taking place across Scotland. We intend to continue this tradition of joint working and innovation to further improve patient care in the years to come.
This full-time post is across community, intensive home treatment and inpatient settings. The successful applicant would be part of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital Adult Psychiatry Consultant rota, which is currently 1:18 including prospective cover and attracts a 3% availability supplement. There are close links with the University of Edinburgh and NHS Education for Scotland, with the potential to develop teaching and research roles, as permitted within the job plan.
A range of psychological therapies is available locally, including a DBT service integrated within the CMHT.
