Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our innovative Neurosciences team. We currently have 21 Occupational Therapists providing a specialist service to patients admitted with a stroke, head injury or long term neurological condition.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking therapist who wants to continue to develop their specialist skills within Neurosciences. The candidate will have previous clinical experience within Stroke or Neurology as an Occupational Therapist either in an acute or community setting.

You will receive supervision and annual appraisal; have access to peer support and encouragement to take an active role within your own continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a well- established team of therapists and assistants who provide person- centered specialist assessment and intervention to patients who have been diagnosed as having a Stroke, having sustained a Head Injury or have a Progressive Neurological a Band 6 you will be expected to support Junior staff and assistants as well as contribute to the education of students and training within the wider risks relating to the discharge process to ensure a safe and timely discharge of patients to the most appropriate setting and to the level of competency relevant to the post, along with sign posting on to other services as necessary

Provide advice and information to patients/ carers including instruction and training regarding use of equipment issued and the ongoing maintenance/progression of patients.

Contribute to 7 day working within the team at a frequency of at least 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks

-This role provides the opportunity to consolidate and further develop specialist skills in the assessment of Neurological presentations-Develop skills in the assessment and treatment of tone, spasticity management/splinting and complex seating systems

-Access to regular and culturally embedded supervision with experienced members of the therapy team, as well as very close working and learning links with OT and the wider MDT

Job responsibilities

1. To maintain a high standard of professional practice, working within the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
