Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an IT Support Manager to join the River Business Unit, in NHS Executive.

This role is to provide technical and specialist IT support whilst developing, maintaining and supporting the systems for the NHS Executive. The role will also encompass the provision of support and advice to NHS Executive staff including trouble shooting IT issues and act as a centralised first line support for the processing of service requests and standard changes within agreed service levels for all staff for the NHS Executive.

It is vital that the successful candidate has achieved (or working towards) degree level or equivalent qualification in IT or able to demonstrate equivalent experience in this area and possesses a good general knowledge of common hardware and software applications.

Main duties of the job

Planning and Design

Responsible for the administration of the Configuration Management Database.

Ensure that all configurations of all assets associated with the Directorate/Network/Programme are registered and managed.

Respond to work requests guided by key performance indicators.

Support the planning and prioritisation on a range of IM&T activities (which are often ongoing) and require the formulation and often short-term adjustment of plans, so must have the ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.

Required to make their own decisions and work on their own initiative when required and to be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Responsible for forecasting assets and equipment required for new staff allocation in line with the capital planning process

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide technical and specialist IT support whilst developing, maintaining and supporting the systems in place for the NHS Executive

Provide support and advice to NHS Executive staff including trouble shooting IT issues before escalating to DHCW

Working autonomously in line with policies and procedures, whilst researching IT functionality to make recommendations to streamline IT systems across the NHS Executive

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

Achieved (or working towards) degree level or equivalent qualification in IT or able to demonstrate equivalent experience in this area. Commitment to continuing professional development for self and team members. Good general knowledge of common hardware and software applications. Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft software, such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, Adobe. Understanding of inter-relationships between aspects of IT infrastructure and service support requirements. Knowledge of relevant NHS standards and legal requirements relating to Information Governance and Security.

Desirable

Knowledge of NHS Wales organisations. Knowledge and understanding of the role of NHS Wales Executive. PRINCE2 foundation or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in a technical support role and proven experience in the development and support of IT systems. Experience of working with and managing relationships with people at all levels of the organisation. Experience in communicating complex ideas to non-technical staff. Experience of dealing with confidential and sensitive data and appropriate maintenance and storage of records. Experience of working with and manipulating data using various applications.

Desirable

Experience of working in an NHS/Healthcare or Public Sector environment.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

Ability to establish good working relationships with people at all levels. Welsh Language Skills at level 1, introduce yourself, greet someone in person, answer the phone with a Welsh scripted greeting. Ability to learn new technologies with minimum supervision. Ability to lift basic IT equipment and crawl under desks to access cabling. Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of our workplace values, together with the underpinning behaviours identified for success in this role.

Desirable

Welsh Language Skills are desirable at level 1 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.

Essential

Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet the needs of the service.
