Job Description

Reporting to the Group Head of Marketing, the Head of Communications is a crucial role on the marketing leadership team.

As Head of Communications, you’ll set the strategic direction and lead the delivery of our group communication strategy. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across Together to influence, educate and create buy in for our strategy & promote its effectiveness. 

An experienced and inspiring leader, you’ll coach, mentor and develop a team of 11 (5 direct reports), responsible for PR, Content, Social Media, Partner marketing and Events, to deliver exceptional communications that will enhance, activate and protect the Together brand across all forms of media.

Day to day activities:

To create and oversee the delivery of our external communications strategy, which promotes the brand, our senior people and the business, across all key audience for Together. Set clear goals, measure and report on communications activity, using key learnings to inform future strategies. To bring our brand to life through all disciplines of Comms (PR, Social Media, Content, Events and Partner Marketing), creating outstanding communications for a variety of audiences. To effectively manage and develop your team - creating an environment of continuous improvement where advice and support is given and where high professional standards are maintained. To protect the Together brand, offer counsel to senior leaders on reputational issues, as well as leading on crisis communications. Work closely with Head of Brand & Campaigns and Head of Channel Engagement to create integrated marketing and communications across all audiences.  Seek out and develop new communications avenues to reach Together’s audiences. Manage the 3rd party agency relationships, ensuring they’re adhering to contractual agreements and optimising performance – set clear KPIs and measure regularly, holding to account where required. To ensure all communications are within the regulatory framework and being delivered using the appropriate marketing governance. To liaise with and influence stakeholders across the business, including Exec, Senior Managers, Investor Relations and Internal Communications to ensure plans are understood, aligned, on brand and messages are consistent both internally and externally.

Qualifications

Are you right for this role?

Ideally, you will be a highly experienced Comms professional with the ability to develop strong relationships at Exec and Senior Management level. You will be an outstanding people leader with the ability to develop and grow the members of the communications team according to their individual needs. 

Essential skills:

Demonstrable experience of creating impactful and insightful communication strategies and subsequent plans, including managing crisis communications. Ability to engage with stakeholders effectively and credibly, including the ability to influence at the most senior levels. Proven experience in managing the full Communications mix of PR, Content and Social Media including setting KPIs and demonstrating ROI. Excellent leadership skills and ability to develop a strong, collaborative, high performing team. Proven effectiveness in creating best in class content for a variety of different audiences. Proven effectiveness across social media platform development. Effective management of external PR agencies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.

Having the following experience would be great... but not essential:

Degree and/or professional background in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, and hold a CIPR or CIM qualification or be able to evidence equivalent experience. Experience within Financial Services or other regulated environment. Strong digital content skills. Worked in a complex, fast-paced organisation. Experience of both B2B and B2C markets.
