Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for Junior Sister/ChargeNurse to join the team on the Same Day Emergency Care Unit SDEC - at SouthTyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. The unit is open 365 days ayear, 8am to 10pm.

The Same Day Care Unit (SDEC) is a developing andexpanding service which aims to provide patients with rapid access toinvestigations and treatment without the need for hospital admission. Oftenpatients are discharged to return to the unit for continued treatment,diagnostics or review. The Unit is supported by a multi-specialty team ofConsultants, Registrars and Nurse Practitioners.

Coordinating the activity on and medicalreferrals to the unit, you will use your clinical knowledge to identifyclinically appropriate admissions to SDEC, advising on other assessmentpathways as needed. As a valued member of the team, the successful candidatewill be supported with development opportunities which will enable them toprovide excellent care and ensure the best outcomes for our patients.

Main duties of the job

This role is suited to a dynamic individual whoenjoys no two days being the same. It is an ideal role for someone withsignificant experience at band 5 of Urgent and Emergency Care/Acute Medicinewho wishes to take advantage of a unique opportunity to develop theirmanagement skills as well as their clinical knowledge. The role will involve regularcross-site working with the SDEC unit at South Tyneside Hospital.

Essential

Experience as a Band 5. Significant experience within the speciality. Experience of leading a team. Evidence of innovation in practice. Experience of coordinating a team in caring for patients from admission to discharge.

Qualifications

Essential

Current NMC Registration (Level 1 adult nurse). Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject or evidence of currently working towards this. Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training.

Desirable

Management and leadership training. ILM qualification.

Physical Skills

Essential

Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

Awareness of national health and social care policy. Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism. Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues. Clinical teaching experience.
