Job summary
In our Ophthalmology department in Malton Ophthalmic Outpatients a vacancy has become available for a dynamic and highly motivated Registered Nurse to join our forward thinking and friendly multi-disciplinary team. The successful applicant will lead the team with day to day management tasks, as well as taking a lead on delivery of ophthalmology clinics at Malton. We are looking for a positive leader with excellent interpersonal skills, to build on the foundations of an excellent and professional nursing team.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain ophthalmic knowledge and skills to deliver highly specialist care to patients with a range of chronic and acute eye conditions.
Candidates must demonstrate excellent leadership, communication skills and must work well as part of a team. Commitment to the delivery of high quality, patient focused care is essential.
Training will be provided however previous ophthalmic experience would be an advantage. Leadership experience, whether formal or not, is essential.
Main duties of the job
Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures Maintain a safe and clean working environment Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept. Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information. Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient Manage nursing staff rotas, including keeping attendance and absence records up to date using Healthroster (training included) Managing a small team of nurses and HCAs, with support from the senior sister and Nursing & AHP Lead for Ophthalmology. Exhibiting positive leadership and promoting the Trust Values in everything you do. Getting involved with strategic planning of ophthalmology services, and adapting these to the ever-changing needs of the local population of patients. Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures Education and TrainingThisdescription indicates the main functions and responsibilities of the post.
