Level 2 SEND/SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Salford

Job Type: Full-time

About the Role:

Due to the expansion of our team, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team, supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is based at a SEMH school and Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) within a supportive educational trust committed to inclusive learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support and interventions to help children overcome barriers to learning, such as emotional distress, behavioral challenges, and specific learning difficulties.
  • Work closely with children who may have a range of needs, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD, sensory processing issues, anxiety, depression, and attachment disorders.
  • Create a nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
  • Assist in the delivery of a creative, exciting, and inclusive curriculum designed to build self-confidence, promote academic progress, and address the individual needs of each student.
  • Support pupils in managing challenging behaviors, fostering a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create individualised support plans that address the unique needs of each child.

About the Students: Students in our PRU often come from diverse and challenging backgrounds. They may be placed in a PRU due to various reasons, including:

  • Exclusion from mainstream schools due to behavioral issues or unmet special educational needs.
  • Emotional and mental health difficulties that make it challenging for them to thrive in a traditional school setting.
  • Experiences of trauma, neglect, or other adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that have impacted their ability to engage with learning.
  • A need for a more supportive and personalised educational environment to help them re-engage with their education and develop coping strategies for their challenges.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong ability to support behaviors that challenge and to develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Understanding of the complexities and sensitivities surrounding SEMH needs and the ability to respond with empathy and professionalism.
  • Commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Flexibility to support pupils in different settings as needed.

Why Join Us? This is a challenging but highly rewarding role, ideal for someone skilled at building relationships and passionate about helping children overcome their challenges. You will be part of a dedicated team that values each individual and is committed to ensuring every child has the tools they need to succeed.
