Job summary

Leading the clinical pharmacy service at the Princess Royal University Hospital and deputising as Pharmacy site lead on a regular basis, you will lead a large team and have the opportunity to lead on developing Pharmacy services and strategy in one of the largest and busiest hospital Trusts.

You will have leadership and management responsibility for the development and delivery of effective pharmacy services for a range of care groups across all sites of King's College Hospital.

You will develop the provision of an efficient, high quality, professional and well-coordinated service for patients. This will include ensuring engagement of patients and professionals in medication related activities that support the delivery of national outcome ambitions in line with the needs and resources of the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Undertake line management for a range of Principal Pharmacists. Provide an advanced clinical pharmacy service to relevant speciality as part of the clinical pharmacy team. Lead and manage the pharmacy clinical team in relevant care groups/ and ensure service delivery to agreed standards in line with business planning requirements. To be part of the PRUH Pharmacy senior site team and act as Site Lead as required Lead on a strategy for further development and maintenance of appropriate guidelines and procedures to support the management, administration, monitoring, cost effective and safe use of drugs including high-risk drugs in all clinical areas. To lead on developing innovative patient focused service delivery pathways to ensure that those with unmet need are identified and treated. Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to promote safe, effective use of drugs within relevant care groups. Ensure the development and delivery of training in clinical specialities pertaining to pharmacy for pharmacy staff and other staff groups as required. Evaluate available information and provide guidance to the relevant care groups on new drugs. Ensuring delivery of cost-effective prescribing across King's College Hospital by working with commissioners to manage budgets, formulate cost improvement plans and monitors any potential savings. To promote the safe use of medicines across the Trust and act as an expert resource in these practice areas across the Trust.

Job responsibilities

Strategically plan, develop and monitor pharmacy and comment on policy and service changes and plans within the clinical pharmacy service and to contribute to, and participate in, pharmacy service developments in line with departmental and Trust policy

Ensure a comprehensive and responsive clinical pharmacy service to the relevant Care Groups in line with agreed local and national standards, guidelines and frameworks.

Work in collaboration with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist Clinical Services, Clinical Pharmacy Team Leaders, general managers and service managers across the trust to continuously review and develop the clinical pharmacy service.

Provide clinical leadership within the relevant Care Groups.

Contribute to the development of the Trust Clinical Pharmacy Strategy and Operational Plan in conjunction with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services and other key stakeholders.

Lead and be accountable for the pharmacy team providing clinical pharmacy services at PRUH and South Sites, and to relevant Care Groups

Responsible for proposing and implementing changes in practice, policy or procedure relating to medicines management within the Trust and the local health economy.

Identify issues and problem solve whilst also developing and implementing solutions in conjunction with colleagues and other teams in the Trust and with external partners.

Actively participate in planning, development, implementation and outcomes reporting of innovation and change management in the pharmacy, relevant care groups, the relevant transformation teams and Trust.

Attend relevant Care Group meetings and present information and reports as required.

Motivate and inspire others (both within pharmacy and the Care Groups).

Develop and monitor the key performance indicators for the whole clinical pharmacy service to assess outputs, assisting with divisional reporting, performance management and capacity planning.

Manage the pharmacy service provision to relevant care groups in order to maximise the use of staffing resource, meet key performance indicator targets and meet the requirements of the service level agreement(s).

Demonstrate expert clinical knowledge, acting as a specialist practitioner and expert pharmacist.

Provide highly specialised and complex evidence-based clinical advice and information using expert knowledge and experience inside and outside of the Trust.

Contribute to and participate in the clinical/ward pharmacy service as appropriate, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning and judgement

Work with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services to identify resources required to improve services and develop appropriate business cases for the development of clinical pharmacy services to the Care Groups.

Monitor drug expenditure for the Care Groups, and provide accurate expenditure information, with appropriate analysis, in line with departmental policies.

Contribute to the budget setting process within the Care Groups.

Undertake line management for a range of band 8B Pharmacy Clinical Team Leaders.

Act as Site Lead for the PRUH and South Sites.

Promote practice research across pharmacy.

Develop a practice research base appropriate to present and future clinical pharmacy practice.

Regularly lead, participate in and co-ordinate relevant research or audit projects.

Participate in audit and practice research to investigate and where appropriate improve the quality of service.
