Job Summary

This is a new role established to support the Rheumatology team at Orpington Hospital. The post holder will work with the Principal Pharmacist for Planned Medicine and Rheumatology MDT to develop outpatient clinics and streamline processes for initiating and maintaining patients on biologics/targeted-synthetic small molecules.

The successful candidate will provide pharmacist-led clinics, lead a Virtual Biologics Clinic for patients initiating new therapies, and ensure that Medicines Optimisation opportunities are realised. The use of advanced therapies such as biologics and JAK inhibitors is rapidly expanding, and this post offers the opportunity to gain significant experience in service development to ensure that these therapies are prescribed in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Main Responsibilities
  • Act as a specialist role model and an expert in the medical management within Rheumatology.
  • Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in Rheumatology in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist.
  • Participate regularly in outpatient clinics to deliver and promote high quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Provide patient and carer education.
  • Promote safe drug use within the Rheumatology specialty.
  • Development, implementation, and audit of local guidelines.
  • Regular financial reporting, drug usage, and expenditure forecasting, and drug budget management.
  • To participate in practice and clinical research and audit.
Requirements
  • MPharm (Masters Degree)
  • Registered Pharmacist (1 year competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or Equivalent
  • Experience of working with senior healthcare professionals outside of pharmacy
  • Experience of protocol/guideline development
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
  • Experience of supporting the development and implementation of policies to control drug expenditure and ensure cost-effective prescribing.
  • Evidence of participating in audit and/or practice research to investigate and where appropriate improve the quality of service.
  • Experience of supporting the development of ward and clinical pharmacy services in order to advance the safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective use of drugs to patients.
  • Demonstrates they have experience of providing highly specialised and complex evidence-based clinical advice and information using expert knowledge and experience to pharmacy, nursing, medical, and other healthcare professionals on the care and treatment of patients, inside and outside of the Trust.

Salary: £56,388 to £62,785 a year, including HCA.
