Salary range: £46,485 to 55,295 per annum pro rata

This is a unique project role which will be centred around becoming a Senior Lecturer within our new and innovative School alongside working closely with NHS/Primary care/Council and private health care partners. The focus is to promote engagement with the quality assurance compliance from the regulators and across work-related learning experiences as relevant, any associated research and ensuring our developing apprenticeships become embedded in the School.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Lecturer, you will be working with our colleagues in workforce development at the NHS Sussex Integrated Care board to continue our expansion activity in apprenticeships from the School of Nursing and Allied Health. Your focus will be to contribute to the development of a collaborative partnership/network which will enhance apprenticeship clinical learning for our developing Speech and Language apprenticeship. You will have a focus on enabling SLT providers to join the collaboration, ensuring engagement which aligns with the necessary regulatory and apprenticeship requirements.

Ideally candidates will have knowledge, experience and skills within the field of Apprenticeships alongside extensive partnership liaison experience. You will be an AHP or nurse with experience of apprenticeships and/or workforce development.

Campus base: Based at Bishop Otter Campus, but required to work at any centre where University business is conducted that is within reasonable distance of the campus base.

Function of the Post:

As a Senior Lecturer in Nursing, you be working with our colleagues in the Clinical Education department in the NHS Sussex Integrated Care board to continue our expansion activity in apprenticeships from the School of Nursing and Allied Health. Your focus will be to contribute to the development of a collaborative partnership/network which will enhance apprenticeship clinical learning for both Nursing and Allied Health, in particular, Speech and Language. You will have a focus on enabling primary care/SLT providers to join the collaboration, ensuring engagement which aligns with the necessary NMC/HCPC and apprenticeship requirements.

The working year will be divided between teaching, teaching-related administration, assessment, research and income generation activities in such proportions as may be decided by the Head of School of Nursing and Allied Health after appropriate consultation, in accordance with the guidelines in the academic contract.

Learning and Teaching

Take responsibility for the development of partnerships for apprenticeship expansion in Identified Nursing and Allied Health courses Take responsibility curriculum development around educational resources associated in this development Liaise and work collaboratively with NHS workforce development staff to ensure success in these development areas. Promote access to and from GP practices for Nursing Associates/PG DIP and RN learners. Implementation of the programme within the School. Contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material associated with the role Transfer knowledge in the form of practical skills, methods and techniques. Identify learning needs of students and develop appropriate learning outcomes. Lead on and collaborate with colleagues on the implementation of assessment procedures. Oversee the work of students, provide advice on study skills and help them with learning problems. Undertake the supervision of students projects, fieldwork and placements. Provide timely, constructive, formative and comprehensive feedback to students using all forms of communication/media. Assess the work and progress of students by reference to established criteria and provide constructive feedback to students. Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback. Tackle issues affecting the quality of delivery, referring more serious matters to senior colleagues, as appropriate. Embrace the importance and value of engaging in the task of education and learning together with students at all academic levels to ensure an outstanding learning experience. Work in partnership with students to enable them to become independent learners and researchers.

Research, scholarly and income generating activities

Engage in pedagogic and practitioner research and/or scholarly activities. Conduct individual or collaborative scholarly projects. Extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities. Develop and produce learning materials and disseminate the results of scholarly activity. Engage in and develop income generating activity applicable to the context of the school and with full discussion with the Head of School. Prepare proposals and applications to external bodies, for funding and accreditation purposes. Strive to achieve national and/or international recognition for these activities.

Communication, liaison and networking

Communicate material of a specialist or highly technical nature. Liaise with colleagues academic and professional services effectively. Participate in and develop internal and external networks ( internal and external committees), for example to contribute to student recruitment, student placements, outreach work, sharing information and ideas and building relationships for future collaboration. Attend open days and assist with other course marketing activities. Focus upon and explore ways to be and think together as educators that are positive and encouraging and empowering.

Teamwork

Depending on the area of work, the post holder could be expected to manage, co-ordinate and/or supervise the work of others. Support and mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on their personal development relating to teaching and/or research and/or income generation and taking account of relevant professional frameworks ( UK Professional Standards Framework and the Researcher Development Framework). Co-ordinate the work of others to ensure modules are delivered to the standards required. Act as a mentor for students in capacity of Academic advisor.

Pastoral care

Develop and use listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills to act as first line support to students, referring them as appropriate to internal and external services providing further help and advice. Appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances. Support students in developing their resilience to be able to take responsibility and overcome the various challenges they will face including personal, economic, mental, physical etc. Provide support for students as an Academic Advisor and Academic Assessor (NMC 2018) Planning and managing resources As module co-ordinator, liaise with others (such as professional services staff or academic colleagues) to ensure student needs and expectations are met. Manage projects relating to own area of work and/or outside the department. Be responsible for administrative duties in own areas such as admissions, time-tabling, examinations, assessment of progress and student attendance.

Possess breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop the curriculum, establish teaching programmes and the provision of learning support. Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students. Balance the pressures of teaching and administrative demands and competing deadlines. Develop innovative and creative approaches when responding to teaching, learning and scholarship challenges.

Essential

A minimum of 2:1 Bachelors (Hons) Degree in Nursing or related degree. NMC Nurse registrant in good standing on the Register. Masters level qualification in related subject to Nursing/Education/Health or working towards this. HE teaching qualification or equivalent or willing to undertake one.
