About the role:

  • The Virginia Department of Transportation(VDOT) Information Technology Division is seeking a senior ProjectManager to manage and deliver a complex IT project(s) with multipleteams and work streams coordinated to an aggressive deliveryschedule.
  • Under the program manager theproject manager is responsible for the outcome of the assignedprojects. The project manager leads the team through theCommonwealth Standard for Project Management for successfulcompletion of the project phases: PreSelect Initiation PlanningExecution and Control and Closeout.

The selected candidatewill:

  • Serve asa handson technical project manager with development staff andbusiness groups.
    Coordinate and communicate with ITDmanagement and staff to coordinate work tasks andresourcing.
  • Communicate timelines andexpectations to technical and business staff.
  • Collaborate with vendors consultants and contractors inthe execution of projects including contract management and workingwith the procurement office(s).
  • Adhere to VDOTand VITA project management practices and governancerequirements;
  • coordinate with VDOT and VITAProject Management Offices.
  • Maintain projectbudget plans tasks schedules risks and status and disseminateinformation to team members and customers as defined in thecommunications plan.
  • Ensure documentation ofrequirements and use cases facilitate design workshops for assignedprojects.
  • Ensure definition of test objectivesdesigned test plans and test cases for assignedprojects.
  • Provide the management of projectmilestones and deliverables for ontime and onbudgetdelivery.
  • Define measure and clearlycommunicate progress with metrics.
  • Supportsystem and application training efforts.

QualificationsRequired:

  • Ability to interact effectively with customers andproject team members.
  • Ability to analyze andtranslate requirements into system specifications.
  • Knowledge of project management tools methods andpractices.
  • Ability to analyze design developtroubleshoot and implement technology solutions.
  • Experience in Microsoft Project software.
  • Experience in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word ExcelPowerPoint) and Microsoft SharePoint
  • Knowledgeof data modeling interface management applications andtools.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of projectmanagement methodologies.
  • Active Project Management Professional (PMP) or VITAcertified Project Management certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and inwriting.
  • Experience in both Agile andWaterfall project management.
  • Ability toprogram and create custom reports using IT application standardtools.
  • A combination of training experience oreducation in Computer Science Information Systems EngineeringBusiness Administration or related field desired.
  • Progressively responsible experience with system analysisdesign development testing and troubleshooting.
