Norwich, United Kingdom Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Full time

Job summary

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a forward thinking teaching hospital offering acute care to a population of approximately one million. We are one of the largest acute teaching hospitals in the UK with strong links to both the School of Pharmacy and the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia. Electronic prescribing and medicines administration has been implemented across all inpatient wards, the A&E and outpatients. We are at the forefront of healthcare delivery with a strong focus on Medicines Management and innovative pharmaceutical practice.

This post would suit an experienced pharmacist, who will strive to improve quality of care for our patients. Although previous experience of working with gastroenterology patients is desirable, it is not essential as training will be provided.

We welcome informal visits to our wards or contact us for any queries regarding this role. We are also able to provide resources to support with your application completion via our recruitment team.

Hours of work will be Monday to Friday with a requirement to work 1 weekend in 10 with corresponding time off during the week. There is also a requirement to work at least one public holiday per annum.

Main duties of the job

In recognition of the excellent pharmacy support received from our existing pharmacy team, an exciting new post has been established for a highly motivated and experienced pharmacist to become an integral part of the Gastroenterology Multidisciplinary Team. The role involves participating in outpatient clinics where you will have an active role as an independent prescriber; conducting patient assessments and ensuring that medicines optimisation opportunities are realised. This post presents an excellent opportunity to showcase and /or develop advanced clinical skills in gastroenterology alongside gaining significant experience in service development.

Other key aspects of the role include support of clinical governance processes, such as development of guidelines, policies and procedures relating to the use of medicines within gastroenterology, participating in research and teaching.

Should you be successful in securing this role you will join a friendly pharmacy team committed to providing high quality pharmaceutical care. Although your role will be primarily based in gastroenterology clinics, you will contribute to gastroenterology ward rounds and the wider clinical pharmacy service, supporting junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and trainees.
