Job overview

An Assistant Service Manager who has responsibility for providing full operational support to the Service Manager and other members of the Divisional Senior Management team to support in the delivery of safe and effective clinical services, ensuring all sub-divisional targets and objectives are met.

The Assistant Service Manager will support and where appropriate lead in identifying and implementing operational change which contributes to the Trust direction and strategy.

The post holder supports and has specific responsibilities for achieving a quality service through development and best use of teams.

They will deputise for the Service manager as required. 

Main duties of the job

Support, develop and maintain systems for agreed services within the sub-division and ensure these are effectively implemented and evaluated according to agreed policies, procedures and guidelines.


Provide operational management for and be responsible for agreed services within the subdivision providing expertise, advice and guidance to improve service delivery.
With the support of the Service Manager, contribute to and lead where appropriate on the review and development of service and workforce plans.
Analyse and act upon information to proactively manage and maintain relevant NHS targets, including profiling activity to ensure target requirements are met.
To assist with the control of expenditure, ensuring it remains within budget for all administrative areas.
Represent the Division at meetings, both as a participant, and/or to produce minutes, document notes, and action plans, distributing documentation as required.

The Trust provides high quality planned and emergency care, cardiac, critical care, child health, maternity services and intermediate care at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford.
