The Acute Paediatric Department forms part of the Women and Children’s Division of the Trust. We provide a service to children from birth, and employ a team of 13 Consultant Paediatricians supported by administrative and clinical staff. The Acute Paediatric Team is based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

We currently have a vacancy for a Personal Assistant within the Paediatric Team.

The PA role involves providing a full secretarial service to a team of Consultant Paediatricians and supporting multi-disciplinary professionals.

You will be expected to demonstrate provision of a high quality secretarial service, excellent time management and organisational skills, and take responsibility for your team’s performance. You should have proven leadership qualities and be able to demonstrate integrity and the ability to manage a team and take responsibility for supporting the Trust’s local and national targets.

Applicants should be highly motivated and be able to demonstrate working on their own initiative, but also as part of a team. You will need to have a formal typewriting qualification, and you will need excellent communication skills when liaising with multi-disciplinary professionals, other departments and agencies, and with parents/carers. You will be able to act as a role model to others.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its ‘Be Safe Be EquiPPEd’ campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE. The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

Daily tasks will include ensuring compliance of the Referral to Treatment (RTT) targets, assisting Consultants with the Advice & Guidance Service, cancellation/alteration of clinics, ensuring full utilisation of clinic capacity, diary management, organising and maintaining paediatric tertiary clinics for visiting Consultants and supervising and supporting the APAs within your team to ensure clinic turnaround targets are achieved. You will have the responsibility of taking the minutes for the monthly Diabetes meeting.
