We are excited to be able to offerMental Health Support Team in Children and FamilyHealth Devon. We have several teams located across Devon and Torbaycovering a range of primary, secondary and specialist schools.

We are looking for a Trained Education Mental Health Practitioner to jointhis fast developing service in our Torbay team.

In linewith the governments priority to increase access and availability of mentalhealth and wellbeing support for children and young people, the EducationMental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliverevidence-based early interventions for children and young people, workingacross both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.

Successful candidates will be employed substantively and based in Mental HealthSupport Teams, which will be responsible for the delivery of mental healthsupport across a range of educational settings in the regions.

You will have already completed the Education Mental Health PractitionerTraining.

Main duties of the job

To provide emotional and mental health assessmentsand evidenced-based therapeutic interventions to children/young people andtheir families who have been referred with a range of emotional and mental healthdifficulties. To provide support to the school community developing andbuilding on their whole school approach.

Within this role the post holder will:-

Hold an appropriate caseload and undertake a keyworker role for children with emotional and mental health needs in thecommunity. Using a strengths-based approach; ensure clinicaleffectiveness through the use of evidence-based interventions, goal-based,collaborative practice and routine outcome measures. With supervision, undertake assessments, includingrisk assessments, contribute to care planning and deliver evidence-basedinterventions in collaboration with children/young people and families/carers. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team offeringearly help in community settings and offering a range of individual, group andfamily focussed evidence-based interventions. Provide support to, and work with, otherprofessionals across agencies in the community including health, social careand education, to meet the needs of children/young people and families/carers. Ensure clinical effectiveness through the use ofevidence-based interventions, goal-based, collaborative practice and routineoutcome measures.

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of six NHSorganisations working together to improve health outcomes for children andyoung people in Devon. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensureto deliver locality-placed based, integrated access to all of our services,based on the i-Thrive Framework, in response to wide-ranging consultation withour service users and communities.

CFHD worksclosely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the PeninsulaMedical School where we support students in clinical training placements and inaddition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training. We activelyengage service users and their families in co-design which is facilitated by adedicated young persons lead role who also works closely with Young Devon whoprovide additional co-design and feedback through the Devon young peopleschampions group.

Qualifications

Essential

CYP IAPT accredited Education Mental Health Practitioner Training Training in an evidence-based therapeutic approach.

Desirable

Evidence of relevant CPD.

Experience

Essential

Experience of engaging/ working with children, young people, families and carers with mental health needs and undertaking specialist mental health assessments in the community, including risk assessments Experience of providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions for children and young people with mental health problems. Experience of collaborative working in community settings, with professionals across a range of agencies in health, social care and education.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Essential

Ability to travel. Ability to manage and process emotionally distressing information, seeking support as required. The ability to work collaboratively with service users and their families/carers, adapting your approach according to the individual needs of the child to demonstrate excellent communication and interaction skills. Knowledge of mental health presentations and evidencebased clinical interventions. Understanding of the use in practice of assessment tools, Routine Outcome Measures and goal-based care.
