Your responsibilities...

  • Inspire and Lead: Oversee the Service Charge and Home Budgets Team for your region, strategically planning cyclical workloads for optimal resource utilisation. Provide robust leadership to direct and indirect reports, fostering a collaborative and motivating environment.
  • Problem-Solving Guru: Advise and assist your team in resolving issues and conducting thorough investigations, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Coach and Develop: Support your team with continuous coaching, development, and training, helping them achieve productivity and performance targets through regular one-on-one sessions.
  • Identify and Bridge Gaps: Spot skills gaps within the team and implement targeted training to elevate overall team performance. Facilitate the training and induction of new colleagues.
  • Strategic Planning: Establish a comprehensive annual work plan for service charge duties, meticulously documenting processes and procedures to ensure seamless operations.
  • Precision and Timeliness: Guarantee accurate and timely service charge estimates for all service charges, coordinating with the wider business as needed.
  • Year-End Expertise: Lead the production of year-end service charge statements for approval, and manage the annual accountant certification and audit process.
  • Financial Adjustments: Ensure all deficit and surplus adjustments are accurately reflected in residents’ accounts.
  • Innovative Development: Enhance the service charge accounting software to meet organisational needs, staying ahead of industry trends.
  • Financial Oversight: Establish and manage robust controls to monitor the financial performance of service charges against budget estimates. Maintain all ledgers and systems to account for service charge costs and income accurately.
  • Value for Money: Collaborate with the wider business to ensure service charges are affordable, delivering outstanding value for our residents.
  • Specialised Accounting Functions: Develop specialised accounting functions for homeowners and leaseholders, particularly focusing on sinking and reserve funds.

Our ideal candidate...

  • Professional Expertise: Qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) or 3+ years of experience in a senior finance/accountancy role.
  • Sector Experience: Proven experience in a service charge finance team within the social housing sector.
  • Leadership Excellence: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a highly motivated and effective team.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of service charges legislation, rent legislation, and the social housing regulatory framework.
