Job summary
West Oak Surgery are looking to recruit a part-time Practice Nurse to work with us in our small but friendly practice providing care and support to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The role consists of all General Practice nursing duties - please see the job description for more detailed information. Please note that, due to limited resources, we are unable to consider applicants who have not previously worked within General Practice and will not respond to applications who do not have General Practice experience.
About us
We are a small friendly team, based in Mapperley, who are dedicated to helping our local community with their health needs. Support will be provided by our existing nurse, HCA, clinical and administration teams. We are also part of a PCN who are able to help provide some aspects of support and ongoing training opportunities.

1. JOB DETAILS
Job Title: Practice Nurse
Reports To: Partners / Practice Manager
Accountable To: All Partners
Location:
West Oak Surgery,319 Westdale Lane, Mapperley, Nottm
Hours: Thursdays & Fridays (8 hours per day - times negotiable)
2. JOB PURPOSE
The practicenurse will ensure that the health needs of the patients will be maintained to ahigh standard by assisting in, and performing routine tasks related to patientcare as directed by the GP Partners and Practice Manager.
3. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Day to day duties:
Assist in and perform routine tasks related topatient care as directed by the Practice Manager and GP Partners, including (butnot exhaustive):
Cytology
Travel vaccinations
ECGs
24hr Blood pressure monitoring and recording
Venepuncture
Wound care assessment and delegate as requiredto the HCA
Suture removal
LTC Management (Diabetes, Asthma,Hypertension, COPD)
Routine immunisations / Childhood immunisations
INR/Warfarin monitoring
Contraception advice and reviews followingagreed protocols
Maintain clinical records
QC checks for INR
Home visits occasional
Chaperoning and assisting patients whereappropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
Requesting pathology tests, for example urineculture, swabs
Personal / Professional Development
The post-holder will participate in anytraining programme implemented by the Practice as part of this employment
Participation in an annual, individualperformance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record ofown personal and/or professional development.
Taking responsibility for own development,learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others whoare undertaking similar work.
Taking responsibility for ensuring alltraining is up to date and completed to a satisfactory standard

Strategy and Duties to the Partnership
Keep abreast of current affairs and changes tonational policy and identify potential threats and opportunities
Adapt existing services and implement new oneswhere necessary in response to patient needs
Work with the Partners and Practice Manager toensure that the will of the partnership is reflected in the day-to-dayoperations of the practice
Take responsibility for actions that emergefrom clinical meetings and highlight any challenges faced and help requiredwhere necessary
Apply practice policies, standards andguidance
Discuss with other members of the team how thepolicies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
Participate in audits and clinical searcheswhen appropriate
Responsible for participating in obtaining QOFfor nurse led areas
Premises and Equipment
Responsible for some equipment management andmaintenance, including liaising with suppliers and IT services whereappropriate.
Order new equipment or stock as necessary andwithin the budgetary allowances delegated to you by the Practice Manager.
Ensure that all Infection Control measures areadhered to, and maintain a position of Infection Control Lead for the Practice.
Maintain equipment used by the nurses and GPs
Maintain the nurses room
Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness ofnurses and treatment rooms
Information Management & Technology
Ensure regular IT training is adhered to inorder to competently run clinical applications
Ensure safe working and patient dataconfidentiality in line with the practice Data Protection policy.
Run clinical searches as requested andappropriate to the position
Risk Management
Ensure that all health and safety laws andregulations are followed and upheld as appropriate to the position
Conduct clinical risk assessments such as HepB status and vaccination status for other staff

Essential
NMC Registered Nurse. Up to date with CPD. GCSE grade 4-9 A-C in English and Maths. At least 6 months Practice Nurse experience is essential. Experience of managing patients with long term health conditions. Good verbal, written and computerised communication skills. Ability to work on own initiative. Flexibility to cross cover if required.
