Assistant Practitioner (Apprentices will be considered)

Due to career progression of our Assistant Practitioners in Imaging we are looking for 3 Assistant Practitioners to join out Imaging teams at UHB.

We are looking for anyone already qualified as an Assistant Practitioner (AP) or for anyone interested in training to becoming an AP.

Those requiring training on the job will involve an apprenticeship over approximately 28 months, completing a Foundation degree in Health & Social Care, diagnostic Radiography pathway. Learners would be fully supported by Practice Educators and the wider radiographic team and be released to attend online university learning. Apprentices would need to be available to start the course in September 2024.

During the training period, trainees would be employed according to trust apprenticeship terms, 12,514 year one and minimum wage subsequent years with statutory terms and conditions. For existing UHB employees, trainees would be seconded under their current salary and terms & conditions.

The Imaging Directorate provides an all-round general radiography experience with rotation into Ambulatory & Emergency Radiography, mobile radiography and operating theatre imaging. The Directorate is committed to providing training & development for all staff.

You will be expected to participate in the 7-day shift system covering out-of-hours service including weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

An Assistant Practitioner (AP) in diagnostic radiography undertakes diagnostic imaging within their scope of practice under the supervision of registered radiographers. An AP uses their skills and knowledge to provide a high standard of direct patient care, imaging technique and maintains accurate confidential records in accordance with the scope of practice. An AP is also expected to adhere to radiation safety standards for themselves, their colleagues, patients, and members of the public. They work closely with registered diagnostic radiographers for supervision and support.

An AP needs to have excellent, adaptable interpersonal skills, pay attention to detail, be able to work under pressure and within a multidisciplinary team. Self-motivation and enthusiasm is essential particularly for those embarking on this career path and learning on the job.
