We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Band 7 Specialist Glaucoma Practitioner to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our glaucoma service, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical care to patients with glaucoma, working closely with our consultant ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients with glaucoma, including planning and undertaking clinical assessments and developing treatment plans.
- Work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care, including participating in clinics, patient reviews, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Develop and implement educational programs and teaching materials to support the professional development of others, including junior staff and students.
- Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and policies, and participate in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to patients, families, and carers, and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care.
- Professional registration with the General Optical Council (GOC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Post-registration CPD and/or post-registration qualification in glaucoma, or equivalent experience with a commitment to undertake.
- Significant experience working at Band 6 level or equivalent as an optometrist, orthoptist, or registered nurse within a background in treating patients with eye-related disorders and conditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of healthcare professionals, patients, and families, and to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong clinical skills, including anterior segment examination, Goldman tonometry, interpretation of ocular coherence topography, fundoscopy, and visual field interpretation.
