Twickenham UK, London, United Kingdom Veramed Full time

Veramed is looking for a Learning and Development Manager to join our dynamic and growing HR team. Veramed is a specialist biometrics CRO that provides high quality data management, statistics and programming services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.

We have a unique people-focused approach and have grown from 2 to 420 staff in the last 12 years across the UK, Europe, US and India. The role can be hybrid to suit personal circumstances but some weekly attendance in one of our three UK offices (Twickenham, West London, Alderley Park, Cheshire and Swansea, South Wales) is required.

The Learning and Development Manager joining us will work closely with the Director of Professional Development and Chief People Officer to develop, manage and implement a learning and development strategy in order to foster a continuous learning culture at Veramed. You will be required to develop and evolve our learning and development strategy to outline how Veramed will develop its workforce capabilities, skills and competencies with outcomes including promoting employee growth and ensuring staff have the skills to excel and develop their careers at Veramed, thereby contributing to the company’s health and success.

We are looking for someone with proven experience in designing and developing in-house training and implementing a learning and development strategy. You will have strong communication skills and an ability to build relationships, influencing key stakeholders across the business.

The ideal candidate for the Learning and Development Manager position will have a positive, can-do attitude and approachable manner. You will have a collaborative approach but also like to take the lead on strategy, working alongside operational management as well as executive stakeholders in the business. You enjoy bringing people together and following a process through from start to finish, but you also recognise the need for flexibility and negotiating skills.

As a person you love to organise and plan, are conscientious and work hard to ensure no stone is left unturned. You are always ‘glass half full’, bringing positive energy to your work life and interested in making an impact.

Key responsibilities of the Learning and Development Manager will be:

  • Work in close partnership with managers and leaders across the organisation to ensure that the L&D strategy caters for the development needs of all employees and proactively create and deliver a schedule of innovative learning solutions to support these needs.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Veramed’s strategic and organisational objectives and create (and continue to develop) an L&D strategy aligned to and reflecting the overall business strategy, delivering programmes and solutions that are aligned with the needs of the business and that can adapt to the changing external pressures that Veramed faces in our industry.
  • Benchmark our current skills requirement, identify strengths and areas of risk, and develop an understanding of the skills we need now and will need in the future in order to create a L&D strategy that shows how Veramed’s performance needs will be met through the development of all its employees.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and apply, knowledge of industry-specific compliance regulations and standards.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the L&D strategy through assessments and feedback on its relevance, alignment and measurement/success by collecting feedback from participants and stakeholders and proactively responding to this feedback.
  • Leverage the learning management system (LMS) and other e-learning platforms.
  • Design and develop learning and support materials to facilitate independent development across core areas of competence, as appropriate.
  • Identify management and leadership training requirements to meet business and personal development needs.
  • Develop and manage the learning and development budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with line managers to drive the responsibility for learning across Veramed and work with managers to make sure that embracing learning is a key competency of a leader at Veramed.
  • Ensure the business maximises the Apprenticeship Levy to its fullest extent.
  • Work with the Director of Professional Development to create a framework for career routes, top and emerging talent reviews and succession planning.
  • Produce regular management information (MI) and proactively apply this to support wider People Team deliverables and effectively evaluate the ROI of development initiatives.
  • Communicate regular training updates to staff, including a regular internal training blog/bulletin.
  • Build relationships with 3rd party providers and negotiate costs.

Additional requirements

  • BSc or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field; Human Resources, L&D, Business.
  • More than 7 years’ experience in a learning and development/training environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with good attention to detail
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning platforms
