  • You have a thorough knowledge of the education system and understand the importance of Early Help and Early Intervention, emphasizing the significance of regular attendance for academic achievement.
  • You possess substantial knowledge and understanding of statutory duties and responsibilities related to school attendance and child and family wellbeing, as outlined in relevant legislation and guidance.
  • You have knowledge and understanding of the Pupil Registration Regulations, DfE Guidance related to these regulations, and strategies for maintaining students in education.
  • You bring significant experience working with schools or related settings, demonstrating effectiveness in achieving positive change and outcomes.
  • Your strong communication skills, both oral and written, allow you to work efficiently, effectively, and independently under strict deadlines.

  • You are willing to undergo a DBS check, work flexible hours, and occasionally travel outside the borough.


What the Job Involves

  • Safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of children and young people in Tower Hamlets, focusing on Early Help and Early Intervention, aligned with DfE guidance.
  • Contributing to raising achievement by improving school attendance, coordinating support with other directorate officers, and sharing best practices with schools.
  • Providing specialized assistance to the Local Authority (LA) in fulfilling statutory obligations regarding school attendance and student welfare, including child employment.
  • Monitoring school attendance levels, assisting in development and review of attendance policies, evaluating their effectiveness, and offering advice to schools and families on LA provisions and procedures.
  • Negotiating and establishing contracts with parents and schools to fulfill statutory obligations related to school attendance.
  • Conducting home visits, both planned and unannounced, to address school absences, check on missing children, and assess home environments.
  • Engaging in casework with children and their families to improve school attendance, coordinating multi-professional support and meetings as required.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports for internal and inter-agency circulation and maintaining accurate case records.
  • Participating in truancy patrols, making referrals for specialist support, and working with children with complex needs.
  • Developing knowledge of relevant legislation, acting as an authorized officer for court actions, and advising on child protection concerns.
