Overview of Role:

The role of Technical Lead is that of a subject matter expert and to lead and grow the Systems Engineering Team. The Technical Lead will be responsible for identifying, defining, and integrating interfaces across the railway system, interfacing with the wider project processes and assurances including Common Safety Method, Requirements, System Safety, RAMS, and Entry into Service.


You will be required to provide strong leadership and technical knowledge for verification and validation of all stages of GRIP/PACE lifecycle to meet the overall project requirements.


This role will be involved in a range of railway projects across the UK and Canada. You will be required to ensure compliance to all relevant Rail, British, European, and global standards. The role will include development and management of the Systems Engineering Team to support the D2 growth plan. You will also be required to work autonomously and within a growing Engineering and PM team providing strategic advice and knowledge associated with rail engineering.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that staff are competent and, where necessary, licensed to undertake the level of engineering required on any bid or project, including any (multi- disciplinary) System Engineer roles.
  • Work with the capability Leads to develop the regional systems capability strategy.
  • Assign the systems capability in line with the predicted workload of projects.
  • Monitor training requirements across the systems engineering team.
  • Provide direction and leadership to deliver planned growth, development, competency and mentoring of staff within the systems engineering discipline.
  • Undertake annual appraisals of systems engineering staff.
  • Direct the recruitment, training and mentoring of staff within the systems engineering technical discipline to meet the competency requirements identified by D2.
  • Lead on the systems engineering management of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Lead on Innovation and promotion of Standard or Best practice for the systems capability.
  • Interface with Resource Management tools (PBR) to maximise utilisation across the account.


Requirements:

  • Member of a relevant professional body with chartered status (or working towards this) and/or educated to degree level.
  • Experience in the production and delivery of technical papers and delivery of technical seminars.
  • Experience with CSM-RA, EIS, and the Rail project life cycle.
  • Experience of working in a design and construction environment.
  • Previous experience of working on multi-disciplinary rail projects.
  • Proven track record in the delivery of specific system engineering service with an innovative approach to solving client problems.
  • Proven track record in the training, mentoring and development of staff to achieve appropriate professional qualifications and career ambitions.
  • Significant experience in area of expertise with experience in the relevant sector in a senior position.
  • Experience in understanding, interpreting, and communicating the technical requirements of Contracts and in particular engineering specifications and appropriate standards.
