London, UK, United Kingdom Merrifield Consultants Full time

Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be partnering with a charity focused on social justice to recruit a Probation Partnership Officer. This role is ideal for a proactive project and partnerships manager dedicated to advocating for and supporting members of the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) community involved in the criminal justice system.

As the Probation Partnership Officer, you will manage impactful projects aimed at improving access to rehabilitation and support services for GRT individuals. This includes overseeing contract obligations with London Probation, driving awareness initiatives, and collaborating with criminal justice stakeholders to advance equality.

Job Title: Probation Partnership Officer

Salary: £35,600 per annum

Contract: 6-month fixed term (potential for extension)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Location: Hybrid (2 days in the office)

Additional Information: Time off in lieu is provided for attending events or meetings outside standard hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Ensure the objectives of the HMPPS contract are carried out effectively: identifying members of the GRT community in London in contact with probation services; making sure that people are assisted at the pre-sentence stage; that people are visited in prison; ensuring that people are assisted with community service orders, licences and recalls etc; and ensuring the successful delivery of briefings and trainings to HMPPS staff.
  • Project and Team Management: Lead and inspire the Traveller Project team, including a Project Officer and Caseworker, ensuring they receive effective supervision, training, and support.
  • Contract Fulfilment: Oversee the successful delivery of the London Probation contract by ensuring compliance with KPIs, reporting on progress, and maintaining clear lines of communication with relevant agencies.
  • Community Advocacy and Policy Support: Raise awareness of issues impacting the GRT community through media engagement, publications, and social media. Develop and implement policy procedures that support equality and promote positive perceptions.
  • Reporting and Evaluation: Maintain detailed project records, track KPIs, and submit monthly performance reports to senior management. Support grant applications to ensure sustainable funding for future project phases.

Person Specification:

  • Criminal Justice Experience: Hands-on experience with prison, probation services or social work, ideally working with marginalised communities.
  • Cultural Awareness: Knowledge of GRT culture and a commitment to inclusive and culturally sensitive practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to take initiative, lead a team, and manage projects independently.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders, combined with clear and empathetic communication.
  • Organisational Abilities: Skilled in managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and adapting to a dynamic work environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Competent in MS Office and CRM systems, such as Salesforce.

The post will include travel to prisons or probation services over London and independent working.

If you are passionate about supporting marginalised communities, we invite you to apply for this impactful role. Join the charity in advancing justice and equality for the GRT community.

We practice a diverse and inclusive recruitment process that ensures equal opportunity for all we work with, irrespective of race, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, age or gender.
