Purpose of the Role:

In the role of Assistant Buyer, your main job is to assist in the design, development, and procurement of new products, aligning with sales forecasts, historical trends, and market analysis to optimize the selection process. You will collaborate with the production, merchandising, and technical teams. Your tasks will include managing and maintaining sample libraries and levels, analysing sales data and market trends, coordinating with suppliers and vendors, preparing product costing sheets, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, development, and procurement of new products, aligning with sales forecasts, historical trends, and market analysis to optimise the selection process.
  • Manage and maintain sample libraries and levels, ensuring accessibility for relevant teams or buyers, and collaborate with the production, merchandising, and technical teams to efficiently manage the critical path.
  • Analyse sales data and market trends to identify opportunities and risks, providing recommendations for assortment optimization, product development, and influencing product selection for senior stakeholder approval.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to negotiate pricing, lead times, delivery schedules, and ensure timely delivery of merchandise, while managing the purchase order process end-to-end.
  • Undertake regular store visits and competitor analysis, reporting findings to enhance market trend knowledge and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare product costing sheets, maintain range presentation boards, and support meeting preparations and range reviews, including follow-up activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring the smooth operation of the Buying department, and provide Ecommerce with the necessary products and information for online range implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders, and manage team members to support the Buying department's efficiency and personal development.
  • Take on projects to support the Business Strategy and personal development, working collaboratively across departments to ensure all administration is delivered efficiently and effectively.



What You'll Need to Succeed:

Technical:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with retail buying, with over 2+ years in the fashion and apparel industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, pricing strategies, and product development within retail buying processes.
  • Understanding and strong analytical and quantitative skills, capable of analysing data and making informed decisions.
