About the role

We are a collaborative team who are passionate about making a positive difference and looking to appoint a Principal Consultant who will provide strategic leadership for a division within MP Smarter Travel. The role includes delivering and overseeing projects, business winning, team and project management.


This is a rare opportunity to be instrumental in defining the future of the business, to expand into new service areas and geographies, and design and manage impactful projects.


Within the role you’ll receive operational and HR support, training and professional development. You’ll work collaboratively with the Head of Consulting to design new project methodologies, keeping the business at the forefront of the sector. You will also work to maintain our relationships with our great clients and their wider organisations, while being supported to explore project work in your own areas of interest.


Based in the vibrant Southbank area of London we have a busy, friendly office and an active social scene with regular staff events. Flexible working options are also available.

About you

We are looking for an individual with sustainable transport and project management experience, that could include;

  • Sustainable Transport
  • Freight & logistics
  • Transport Planning


You’ll be an outgoing and confident ‘people person’ who is comfortable speaking on the phone and in-person. You will have excellent spoken and written communications skills, organisational skills, and attention to detail.


Optional experience:

  • Understanding of the UK’s environmental agenda and transport policy.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing, managing and delivering large-scale high value environmental projects and programmes.
  • Knowledge of freight & logistics, in particular sustainable delivery methods.
  • Previous experience using technical tools e.g. Excel, RStudio, CAD, GIS etc.


Role and responsibilities:

  • Manage a division, run your own projects and mentor other junior project managers.
  • Manage multiple client accounts
  • Plan and deliver expansions into new markets.
  • Line manage at least two members of staff.
  • Collaborate with more senior members of staff to provide strategic direction and improve the business.
  • Provide input for our website, project tracking tool, CRM and social media accounts.
  • Become renowned for your sustainable transport expertise through the delivery of presentations, high quality project work and through social media.
