Hours: Monday - Sunday - available for shifts 10.pm
08.00am on a 4 on 4 off rota. 365 days per
year and sleeps

**Location**: [Main Base Location: one of four homes
(identified at Interview Stage). May be required
to work at other homes].

**Job Purpose**
A Therapeutic Parent will deliver Halliwell’s Restorative Parenting® recovery programme
offering sensitive and caring re-parenting to children aged between 4 and 12 (at the time of
placement) who have experienced trauma in their lives. Caring for children who can at
times display complex and challenging behaviours the post holder will offer therapeutic
parenting techniques to meet the children’s’ social, emotional, cultural and educational
needs. The post holder will also assist in the day to day running of the home including
domestic duties and paperwork / record keeping working closely with onsite senior
therapeutic parents, clinical and education teams to provide tailored psychological
recovery programmes for each child. A therapeutic, safe, healthy and homely environment
will need to be in place at all times to meet Ofsted’s Quality Standards.
The post holder will be committed to continual professional development including training
in Restorative Parenting® to enable psychological recovery of children.

**Main Duties**
To work very closely with the Senior Therapeutic Parents and Management to ensure the
running of the home is to a high standard meeting Ofsted Quality Standards.
To contribute to the development of the child through the provision of a therapeutic home
environment and being a committed and consistent adult role model.
To provide warmth and care for our children, and undertake tasks that are not be related to
care ie laundry, cleaning, ironing etc daily and ensure there is written record of the taskes
completed.
To follow the children’s care plans and risk assessments and carry out job role in
accordance with Halliwell’s childcare policies and procedures at all times.

To understand and adhere to all policies and procedure within Halliwell Homes and the
Homes Standard Operating Procedures.
To complete and comply with all risk assessments in place and update, where required.
To ensure all the household log books and records, including c sheets and daily records,
meet Health and Safety requirements and updated and maintained to standards as
required by Ofsted.
Keep a waking night record and other detailed records as required relating to the care and
support provided to the young person.
To ensure all accidents (including children, employees and third parties) are recorded
immediately using the correct forms and notification procedures.
To refer to risk assessments and individual child plans and understand the content of
these including in relation to away from home activities, trips and visits.
To participate in staff handovers before commencing or leaving a shift engaging in a
thorough handover to ensure staff can take over a shift safely.

To promote a healthy lifestyle and demonstrate positive and consistent adult role model
behaviours.
To assist assessing the development and approaches to the Restorative Parenting index’s
and measure children’s progress against the RPI.
To understand each individual child with a commitment to a mindful relationship with the
children remaining emotionally attuned with a willingness to understand how the world
feels from the child’s perspective.
Ability to build trust with children and offer strategies to help children manage their inner
anxieties and manage their feelings and behaviour.

To encourage the physical, emotional and social needs of our children remaining sensitive
to the needs of children, taking account of religion, sexuality etc.
To identify and set consistent rules and boundaries to modify unacceptable behaviours
using Halliwell’s Restorative Parenting techniques and following an ‘authoritative
parenting’ style.
To assist the children to help gain social awareness of other peers or adults and develop a
relationship by building trust with the child.
To safeguard children at all times and be alert to signs of distress or abuse and where
necessary referring on to Halliwell’s Designated Lead Safeguarding Officer, to ensure
children can be monitored and protected appropriately.
To follow, promote and ensure safeguarding procedures are met at all times by adhering
to the relevant policy.

To establish and maintain positive working relationships across Halliwell Homes’ teams.
A willingness to be open to receive and also support with the sharing of personal
knowledge, skills and expertise to broaden the competence of the wider Halliwell
work
