An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Administrator to join our small friendly administration team here at the Daresbury Laboratory. In this cross functional role your main focus will be supporting the Director of ASTeC and the Director of the Cockcroft Institute however you’ll also be performing other general admin office duties, including getting involved in better working projects and recruitment.

Duties of these roles will include:

- Provide secretariat support at meetings including advisory boards. This includes but is not limited to drafting agendas, supporting drafting of papers where appropriate, taking minutes, producing actions logs and following up on action completion with action owners.
- Working with and supporting Associate Directors, Team Leaders and academic staff from the Cockcroft partner universities at their team meetings to gain a picture-wide view of the teams needs and proactively looking for opportunities to add value and support.
- Providing professional advice and guidance on processes and best practice to the senior leadership team and members of the Directorate.
- Event Management - working with the Associate Directors, Team Leaders and academic staff from the Cockcroft partner universities to organise events, leading the organisation of events both on and off site, sourcing locations, negotiating costs and packages, and all associated logistics.
- Building relationships at all levels both internally and externally including working with CI Partner Universities and international stakeholders
- Responsibility for the setup, maintenance and development of directorate records as needed
- Management of other administrative support tasks as required
- Organising and overseeing travel arrangements including flights, hotels and transport etc. including liaising with meeting organisers, using own initiative to make judgements on the most cost effective and safe way for individuals to travel both within the UK and internationally.
- Supporting the recruitment & induction process for new starters in the department.
- Play an active and flexible role as a member of the Directorate Office team - proactively looking at where additional support is needed, prioritising as necessary and ensuring all deadlines are met.

The personal attributes we are looking for include:

- You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable in dealing with a wide variety of individuals at all levels.
- Good organisational, written and oral communication skills are key to this role, as well as a good eye for detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other common software and databases is essential.
- Experience with SharePoint and Office 365 is desirable.
- You will enjoy working as part of a team, be able to act on your own initiative and manage competing demands and pressures whilst remaining calm and professional at all times.
