The Home Office is here to make the UK safer. Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office with primary responsibility for UK Border Security, including counter terrorism, immigration and customs matters.

We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Border Force has five operational regions in the UK: North, Central, Heathrow, South and South East & Europe. These regions have responsibility for securing the border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, 200+ general aviation ports, postal depots and international rail network. **Job description**:
The Operational Assurance Directorate (OAD) are recruiting an Officer to join the People Protection and Risk Team (PPRT). As part of your role, you will be working with a new and evolving team that is part of the Insider Threat Programme of work. The role is varied and represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a new team, gaining exposure and insight into insider threat, how it can be tackled and, equally importantly, how staff can be protected. The post is within a high-profile environment with frequent access to senior Border Force managers.

The post is based in Croydon; however occasional travel to visit Border Force staff at ports may be required. Border Force uniform will be required to be worn on these and other specified occasions.

**Person specification**:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Carry out research to identify risks and threats to Border Force its personnel, assets and information.
- Ensure any risks identified are appropriately reported and recorded.
- Assist on proactive insider threat initiatives and projects.
- Be responsible for creating, maintaining and updating accurate case management records and team databases/spreadsheets.
- Assist in the preparation of briefing information on cases for managers and the team's Operational Security Advisor.
- Contribute to individual and organisational learning focused on reducing risk.
- Work collaboratively across government with NCA, Home Office Security, HR and Cluster 2 Vetting Team to support the holistic management of ‘people risk’.
- Contribute to the review, update and development of policy/procedures and data systems within the team.
- Ensure the quality, secure handling and dissemination of intelligence and information, maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity and duty of care in line with Border Force policy. Ensuring data sharing complies with GDPR.

**ESSENTIAL CRITERIA** for this role are:

- Experience of assessing and managing threats and risks to the UK and government departments.
- Experience of analysing, assessing and interpreting information from a range of sources in order to make effective decisions with accountability.
- Experience of working to tight deadlines, case management and accurate record keeping.
- Experience in using your interpersonal skills to maintain trusting and collaborative relationships on sensitive issues.
- Knowledge and experience of working with Microsoft programs, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in interpreting numerical data and producing statistics for management information.
- Good awareness of equality and diversity issues.

**DESIRABLE** CRITERIA**
- Background and with experience of investigation techniques and case management processes, gained from security, regulatory or investigatory work.
- Knowledge of Intelligence gathering and handling processes.
- Knowledge of protective security principles and measures within the Government Security Policy Framework (SPF)
- Being able to deal with large volumes of data within short time frames.
