- This is an exciting opportunity to develop policy in a fast-paced, and high-profile area of Her Majesty’s Government. You will be responsible for designing policy which ensures those with a legitimate right to enter or remain in the UK on the basis of their human rights or need for protection are able to do so, while at the same time ensuring numbers of protection cases are controlled and that abusive or unfounded claims are prevented or dealt with. This is a stakeholder rich environment, affording significant opportunities to advise and support ministers directly.
- The role is advertised on a fixed term basis to develop policy strategies, APED require extra resources on a temporary basis to achieve these ministerial objectives.
- As a Senior Policy Adviser, you should be able to:
- Think strategically and prioritise policy development according to HO ministerial direction and objectives.
- Brief senior officials and ministers orally and in writing.
- Produce high-quality written documentation including submissions, correspondence, briefing and reports.
- Be able to communicate complex information clearly and represent your policy area in HO and cross-Government fora.
- Learn quickly and adapt flexibly according to changing priorities.
- Think creatively, using a diverse well-researched evidence base, to develop options and reach effective outcomes.
The Senior Policy Adviser role is challenging and rewarding, with exceptional long-term career prospects. You will work in a rapidly changing environment, working with your team to develop policy in politically contentious areas, and delivering high quality advice and input to Home Office ministers and senior leaders, and other partners both inside and outside Government.**Responsibilities**:
**Essential Criteria**- Skills in developing an evidence base to develop and/or deliver work.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, using language to clearly articulate recommendations in strategy documents, briefings, papers and presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience of effective working in a team as well as stakeholder management with senior leaders.
- Experience of developing individuals to get the best out of people to deliver key outcomes.
- Experience of working in a changing environment and planning, collaborating, and delivering through others to meet deadlines on multiple pieces of work.
**Desirable Criteria**
The work is varied, and while not essential, an understanding of asylum, immigration and human rights requirements would be helpful, as we deal with a range of colleagues across the wider business - similarly - previous policy experience may be an advantage in dealing with submissions, legislative changes etc.**Behaviours**:
