- Job description- We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team. You will have a passion to make a difference to people's lives, by delivering high quality outputs. You will help us, our communities, and our partner organisations across Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight prepare for and become more resilient to the risk of flooding.
Your work will include helping the team to:
- Maintain and improve our data, documents, procedures, processes, data, systems and tools
- Collect, maintain, analyse and interpret evidence to support decisions that improve our flood warning service
- Prepare and deliver training to volunteers to support the issue of quality flood warnings
- Make improvements to our processes and service delivery
- Engage with public and partners, including maintaining relationships, so as many people as possible can better understand their flood risk and how to improve flood resilience
- Respond to flooding events
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- The Flood Resilience Team support communities across Hampshire, Sussex and the Isle of Wight to become better adapted and resilient to the changing climate by:
- Supporting communities at risk of flooding, providing advice on what to do before, during and after flood events
- Operating a flood warning service, ensuring duty staff are fully trained, supported and capable to perform their role.
- Working collaboratively with partners to ensure we provide the best response
- Experience/skills required- You will be able to demonstrate most/all of the following transferable skills:
- Be well organised and self-motivated
- Ability to plan, prioritise, track, prepare and deliver outcomes
- Excellent attention to detail whilst delivering work to a high standard
- Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to achieve outcomes
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external partners
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to explain technical information clearly to a range of audiences
- Proficiency in learning IT and data systems
Experience of flood warning, flood risk, incident management and using GIS could be beneficial.
Travel to locations within the Solent and South Downs area is required as part of this role. You must have a full driving licence or be able to demonstrate how you could perform this role without one.
