- If you have a strong interest in protecting our water environment, specifically groundwater, and are keen to develop your technical knowledge, analytical skills and project management capabilities, then we want to hear from you. You will gain experience of the varied work that goes into protecting our groundwater resources and why it is vital that we do.
- This is a busy and varied role in which you will analyse and interpret data to support operational decisions, our environmental regulation and further our understanding of the stresses placed on our water resources as a result of climate change.
- In this role you will:
- Advise on the impacts of groundwater abstraction;
- Advise on the groundwater extremes of drought and groundwater flooding;
- Work with water companies on restoring sustainable abstraction projects;
- Manage our groundwater level network, critical to our evidence base;
- Be the team lead responding to technical enquiries;
- Following training, undertake groundwater resource and pump test assessments.

The team
- The post is part of the Groundwater, Hydrology and Contaminated Land team in Solent and South Downs Area. We are responsible for providing technical and scientific expertise to our field and flood forecasting teams, and to a wide range of external stakeholders, all to protect the quality and quantity of groundwater.
- We are based in one of the Area offices listed above, with some home working, visits to other offices and occasional site work.

Experience/skills required
- Enthusiastic and motivated you will have the ability to demonstrate the skills and experience below:
- Good computer skills are essential, including the use of spreadsheets, databases and mapping systems;
- You'll be an enthusiastic communicator who can analyse raw data and translate it into meaningful written statements that can be understood by a wide audience;
- An ability to identify solutions to improve business processes;
- Ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple tasks;
- Experience of working as part of a team as well as being able to use your initiative to work independently;
- A full UK driving licence is desirable as you will need to carry out occasional site visits and travel between offices.
